Will someone explain to me what exactly real time is? Last I checked if I post something on my blog its ‘real-time’. If I text someone.. its real-time.. if I call someone.. its real-time.

I must be missing something here.

No, I think semantic web is just a tiny part of what will be involved in web 3.0 on the UI side. The bulk of it will be about exploiting synergies between the back end and the front end to create hyper efficient application platforms that can then be used to build scalable, secure applications using all the buzz technologies. Semantic web will be only a piece of that puzzle on the front end, it won’t be the whole 3.0. Web 3.0 is going to be heavy on cloud utilization and scalability as a routine foundation for any web app. which thanks to web 2.0 have become increasingly real time based. Self serving yes, but some one has to do the prognosticating.

What does that mean and what are some of the commercial consequences that you may be refering to? People Tweet, talk and write with….intent, right? Ron is a solid dude. Mike is a solid dude. I can see Mike’s frustration with all of these knucklehead haters on here.

If you can’t say anything nice… Don’t say anything at all. Feel free to bring up constructive criticism, or possible obstacles to success, but leave the Junior High nonsense out please.

Good for Ron, but especially good for the hard working men and women of the startup world.

It isn’t about posting something and having it available immediately, what doesn’t do that? It’s not about time limits. Like most buzz terms, it’s a misnomer.

It’s all about easy access to very recent data. What are people up to now? Traditionally you would have to go and visit all your friends pages and see what they are up to, real time is about positioning that data so you can access it all, and see the most recent first. Take that general concept, apply it ad finitum. That’s the real time web.

A brief comment — caught this post late and got tired of reading the comments.

Ron and Steve are individually (and together) some of the best investors I have worked with. Ron’s ability to manage a huge group of seed investments, his persistent focus on entrepreneurs and talent — his ability to show up at any meeting with notes from the first day he met you (seriously, he is Mr GTD). He does what he loves and he loves what he does — I haven’t met anyone else like him in this business.

He is a vital part of the ecosystem and he and Steve will continue to back the innovation stream (real time, that is) at its most fragile and interesting stage
