Microsoft has just announced that some new features are coming the Xbox 360 at E3. Facebook and Last.fm integration into the Xbox Live dashboard are two of them. The game Metal Gear Solid is another. But the one they seem to be touting the most right now? Twitter!
Yes, it seems the software giant, who has made some nice moves in the gaming space, has just as big of an obsession with Twitter as everyone else. You will apparently be able to see tweets and post new tweets from the console starting soon.
While, to me, this doesn’t rank up there with last year’s announcement of Netflix streaming coming to Xbox Live, it’s a pretty nice group of features to add to make the Xbox 360 more social. But the show just began, I’m sure Microsoft has some other tricks up its sleeve.

I don’t understand. Why not include a browser in the 360. Both Wii and PS3 have a browser and Twitter comes for free.
Give us a browser MS.
I agree.
Xbox has browser you just have to have vista and download a program that’s called windows media.
Bing?
They could integrate it with Bing* I would like that.
I rest my case – see my comments here : http://www.tech...comment-2777510
TC is becoming Twitter – 3 posts in the past 30 minutes. This post – just 86 words ( a reasonable post should be about 400 words long), 464 charechters.
Where are those Arrington insightful posts, full of poison? Too busy working on TC50?.
Come on Michael, your twittboys will lose you readers.
And what the hell so new about twitter for xbox? chat during games has been available for years on all gaming platforms..
What other posts in the last 30 minutes have been about Twitter?
I am going to back MG here, He does a ton of Twitter posts granted.. If you pay attention to most of the Twitter posts, they are of things that exploit how people are building on this service, and right now, no matter how much any of us don’t like it, Twitter is the darling of what people are talking about.
But MG DOES come through when he writes about non-Twitter news such as the now classic “Badda-Bing, Indeed!” also posted today…
When your standing in front of an angel and asked your opinion of Twitter, I would suggest you take some of these articles and find some good perspectives in them, because if you start bad-mouthing one of the hottest web apps, you may potentially be looked at as “not on the cutting edge of what’s hot” and loose out on an investment in your own company.
Im just saying.
Im behind MG here. I blog as well, and Twitter posts get a substantial higher traffic load than other posts. People really do give a damn about Twitter. Why not write about what people do not want to read? And besides, they write so many posts per day here at TC that I really doubt that it is that high a % anyway.
By TC becoming Twitter I meant that it’s becoming a real-time service, with short, frequent updates. For that, we have Twitter. Twitter is making users increasingly impatient, and bloggers either have to adjust, or to try to differentiate themselves.
What made TC such a fun reading was the great posts Michael wrote, which provided a unique insight into the startup scene (publishing internal, private and confidential email, where are those days?) .
Most TC Twits these days are PR junk trimmed to 400 characters. Just MHO.
Not sure how Twitter is bigger than Facebook Connect on XBOX 360.
Seems like a bit of bias journalism here.
For the REAL big thing about this announcement please see:

Embedding Twitter everywhere is a great idea – love the idea of following tweets while watching a TV show, playing a game, etc…now mixing that with other content a la FrameChannel is really where its at.
Yawn… More ways for people to lead unproductive lives. Wake me up when something interesting is happening.
the gesture thing they are showing now > this
Yes, interested in that.
This makes me think more and more that Microsoft is seriously considering the purchase of twitter.
Twitter is now a days everyone preference first choice to include in their new launch or existing products, wondering do people really care for it.
Oh please who cares to read: “OMG I JUST GOT HIGH SCORE GG”
I am really excited about the integration.. Just think that how cool it would be if we can tweet our scores.. I m looking frward to it..
I’ve wanted this for some time: http://twitter....uses/1846733611
I loved the Netflix integration they added last year, but I don’t see myself using the Twitter functionality at all. My Xbox is for playing games and watching movies and not so much for my social life/networking.
I’m all for Twitter adoption but with the recent #spymaster story and notifications won’t we see more developers use Twitter to spread the word about their games as it clearly works?
Twitter seriously needs filters before it ends up too loud with the amount of noise being fed through the service..
” the one they seem to be touting the most right now”
Were you watchnig the same press conference as me? The Twitter announcement took up about 20secs of a 2-hour presentation. The Facebook integration was covered in much more depth – the Twitter announcement was throwaway.
I thought the same thing! The twitter was a throwaway in comparison. The reason people tire of the Twitter hype is because posts like this one but I’m assuming that he was just trying to be funny. God I hope so – no one could that dumb.
Uh, biggest feature, how about full body motion control. A feature so awesome they had Steven Spielberg help present it. I think xbox 360 just killed the Wii.
Where’s my hulu integration?
facebook, twitter, not on my Xbox, unless they drop the keyboard price to $5.
Give me more TV and Videos.
Why no mention of the Facebook integration? This seems like much bigger news to me (especially the friend linker).
Twitter sucks. The real news is Facebook support!
LOL ! they said twitter and MG had an orgasm and quickly posted it as the NEXT BIG feature of XBOX Live. FAIL POST
Tweeting is easy with the X-Box keyboard controller: http://www.enga...ler-attachment/
Yep, I thought the Facebook news was more interesting, but the Twitter integration looked pretty neat. Twitter is the the Internetz Belle of the Ball though right now, so I can understand the emphasis on Twitter for the story.
Look, someone already did a Spymaster ripoff — http://140mafia.com. Kill me before it’s too late.
we should be able to order pizza as well!

I’m an Xbox Live gold subscriber, Twitter addict and Facebook user. This is announcement is big, and it’s welcome. What MS has succeeded in doing with Xbox Live is this: like your computer, if your Xbox isn’t connected to the Internet it feels “dead” somehow. Adding social networks that hundreds of millions already use is smart, simple and will go even further toward making the box feel more connected and functional.
However, as someone said, the real news is the motion sensing system. With the right software, marketing and price, it will take off like the Wii.
Metal Gear Solid on 360? That’s the big news to me. I need some kind of confirmation! Holy WOW if that were true!
Twitter keeps growing and growing. So many new useful ways for Twitter to be used. As Twitter becomes more mainstream I wonder if other gaming systems will adopt it’s platform.
Commented on Twitter and on the post, but I’ll say it again: I predict an upsurge in sales of keyboards for the 360. But I honestly cannot figure out what (based on boyfriend, his brother, and my brother’s use of their 360s) possible use one would get from having Twitter access. None of them use the already existing chat feature.
Sounds pretty cool. Don’t see it going anywhere. I’m a pretty big Xbox fan and I never really use any chat features other than voice chat. Plus I don’t see why people would want to tweet while they’re playing a video game, especially a multiplayer game on Xbox Live.
What’s next, BING integration?
How about a one button order for a ‘favourite’ dominos pizza from my xbox menu! Do it!
Not sure if you’re being sarcastic or not but seriously, that’s not a bad idea! It’d be quite nice to see a kinda “widgets” platfrom on the 360 onto which you could install small apps (e.g. pizza ordering).
Really cool info down here. Gonna be back soon!!!
what are the possibilities that twitter marketing will work? i truly think that we need to have real value to give to our loyal follower . getting the right content to get the right customer? it also let your ideas or anyone’s ideas spreading all across the minds all over the world. then it is time when twitter money is a ‘way to go’!
