This is just too good. One of the features of Microsoft’s just launched Bing search engine is that it auto-plays videos in results when you hover over them. Naturally, the first thing a number of people, like Loic Le Meur, did was search for “sex” or “porn.” The results are majestic — if you’re a teenager looking for a way around porn filters on your computer. And this isn’t artful porn or something like it, it’s straight-up, hardcore pornography.
Now, to be fair, to see these results, you do have to manually override the adult filter on the video search, but that’s a whole 2 clicks and doesn’t require that you actually verify your age or anything. The Bing team on Twitter is already warning users about this following Loic and other’s tweets about the issue. But the results literally speak for themselves. If you’re so inclined, go ahead and try, it’s one hell of a way to browse porn. Straight porn, gay porn, you name it. It’s all there, ready to auto-play.
I had one hell of a time just finding a result that would be easy enough for me to edit with you still being able to tell what it is. Obviously, this stuff is not safe for work — unless perhaps you work on the Bing team.
Since porn is second next to e-mail on the web… this could be in favor of badda-bing indeed!

Make sure your search history on Bing is turned off [default is on - bad idea] while testing. Also if you are from out side US, use a US proxy from this list

I don’t know why my comments are being filtered in the other post, but you should mention the cashback incentive they offer in the shopping section. That is an awesome idea and will greatly aid in adoption. Even if Bing can’t beat Google, I think they can carve a niche for video/shopping and perhaps other categories.

It’s different precisely because of the autoplay. If you’re a system administrator for an office and you -have- to block porn, you -have- to block bing. If you -have- to block streaming media, you -have- to block bing.
It’s not just a search engine, it’s a way around filters.
Google has had similar “filter bypass” functionality built into google search for years, allowing the determined employee or teenager to bypass content filters quite easily. I used it extensively for that purpose at a previous job.
Google caches websites, so even if the end page is blocked by a content filter, you can still browse inappropriate content via the cached version of the page. Adult images also make it through. Yet enterprises are unwilling to block google.com. Why? Because it’s so damn useful.
This is not much different… Thank-you MS and Google for giving everyone an easy way around content filters!

that’s weird you should have safe-search on by default… i cannot repro this on my browser as by default safe-search is on for me.
Fixed now! Following the linked searches above (ahem! Purely for research, you understand!), leads to a page which asks if you want to turn off safe search and makes you click a button saying you are over 18.
Here in Germany we don’t even have the option to turn off safe search. The filthy stuff is only for americans
. I had to change the country to USA to edit my safe search settings. When I change back to Germany safe search is back on again.
i suspect Larry Magid will have a lot to say about this feature / non-feature. Especially on the heels of the beta launch of his safe browsing site.
You can tell alot about the future of a search engine based on how well it finds targeted porn.
Porn is the most spammed, SEO’d, and overdone niche and if bing can pull up targeted results for a phrase like “german midget feet” then and only then will it stand a chance.
Let us not forget that depending on your source, 10-20% of searches on the net are porn related.

Too bad Bing on the iPhone and I suppose other mobile platforms redirect to live.com. Microsoft obviously does not understand mobile.
I think its only for your iphone, because on my mobile live.com redirects to bing.com, and bing.com is bing.com. I’m not sure how you’re still getting live.com because that is technically offline now. do you mind taking a screen shot?
I don’t know if they’ve fixed it, but I tried it and there is a was a warning message which required a few clicks, and then all the videos were “soft-core” in the sense that they came from YouTube or MySpace and were edited thus.
No big deal in my opinion.
Porn on the internet has never been more than 2 clicks away…

This feature could kill the porn industry. It’s similar to what Google news did to news publishers – the end consumer doesn’t have to visit the content owner’s website to view the content. Less eyeballs = less $$ for the content owner.
Not sure MSFT are allowed to do that. I would say this is MSFT being parasites, again.
This is a serious issue indeed. Scraping porn videos to play in the search without landing on the page, whoa. This is worse for the porn industry than porn-hub.
Have they released a way to keep your video site from showing on these search pages? I think google had a way to keep your site out of it’s image search, but at least that still shows our pages.
I’m guessing this may work with you tube and other videos, I wouldn’t be surprised if the music industry doesn’t find this violating terms from other web sites as well with music videos.
yahoo had something like this in their searches, but I noticed many click-to-play songs or videos now say some notice about embedding being disabled.

MG, The option to disable safe search is not available for certain countries such as India… To enable that you need to change your country from top and chose us or russia…

Notice where most videos are hosted – youtube.com. Also, search google for lesbians – youtube videos are on first page – bing does not!

There is nothing new about Bing video search vs. Live Search.. NOTHING..
The preview video feature was part of Live Search and so was the index of video… i just don’t think Techcrunch ever tried this search with Live Search.. if they did they would of realized there is nothing new here.

Yes! I tried Bing yesterday and I tried searching some videos and then removed the “adult filter” and really the results were pretty awesome! Bing play most of the video on “Bing” itself.
