I guess it's not surprising to read that some don't like the RT phenomenon. I do like it...and, it's very useful to me.

Just by reading a tweet (that one of the people I'm following thought interesting enough to share), I can easily discover someone new & interesting to follow that I may well never have come across without having read the RT. I have come across so many useful tips & ideas just by reading retweets.

I also like it because I can give visibility to my followers of someone I'm following...who's sharing something cool they came across from someone they're following. I think it adds to the community...not subtracts from it.

I use Tweetie on my iPhone primarily. Tweetie & TweeDeck make it so easy to RT. It's annoying to to not have the RT functionality in the online Twitter interface. (@ev - Are you listening?)

Spam? Not worried about it. I'll just unfollow someone who hasn't struck a reasonable balance between interesting/helpful/funny/inspirational tweets & promotional messaging.

Twitter: I'm with David Sacks...and many others. Give us the RT functionality!

Additionally, you should be able to see what post a reply is to. Getting '@liquidizer I agree!' is great, but agree to what post?

I can see no reason to not extend the character limit to as many characters are possible and keep a clean 140 for new 'body' text. URL's, reply to text (one level only) and so on should be extra.

Why slow down the media because some people still use it via SMS? Make SMS a partly supported input method, not the constraint.

Nice idea, but it better be an option. I miss the option to be able to turn off @replies. Too much stuff crowding the tweet stream is making Twitter not as fun. Thankfully I have greasemonkey scripts to hide retweets and blip.fm now, that shit is super-annoying.

Good Idea. Would like to see it incorporated in the UI preferably in the same area as the 'reply' and 'favorite' icons. There should also be retweet functionality added to the api, of course this would just be a wrapper to the posting already but still a nice addition.

Brilliant. One of those smack your head, why didn't I think of that ideas. Hope that Twitter AND all third party Twitter clients add this feature. Sure spamming could become an issue, but selective following should resolve that issue.

Twitter provides a great means for distributing vast amounts of information to large audiences with minimal effort (this includes the power of the RT). The missing component for me is how does someone effectively keep track of or database the useful information they come across on Twitter? It's great if you find something useful, but if you can't store it or do anything with that information how good is it to you?
