I live in Sapporo and was at the event. But then again I always am. I guess when you live in Japan for so long you kinda take things for granite. It is kinda like the norm over here and what seems new to overseas clients (especially in the gaming district) is just everyday life over here. Japan has been in decline in the recent though. If you really want to see where technology seems to be advancing take a trip to Taiwan and be prepared to be blown away. Computex 2009 in Taipei is something you all don't want to miss!!

I don't think names are that important but the technology that creates things behind those startups does matter. For example, Google back then had people said, "Ha, what the hell is that." But after they tried the kind of search technology Google offered, then they started to like it.

Just so you know I'm not kidding.
http://www.soeet.com/aaa.jpg
$50 round trip is a great deal. If anything happens, apparently AAA pays for all expenses. At least that's what they said when I signed up. BTW, when I went to Tokyo the Japanese govt came on the plane with thermal sensing cameras.

If you are an American in Japan, they will instantly suspect you of having swine flu. Not for any logical reason, but simply because 15 people in a country of 160 million got it.

Just FYI. Again I would have gladly gone back for this expo had somebody paid my way. LOL. Maybe next year.

I was in Japan last month. It seems like a lovely country. I would have liked to go to this. :(

FYI, since I have an older car, I signed up for AAA premium today. To offset the costs I am offering $50 round trip car pooling from Socal to Google IO for anybody interested. A Virgin flight is $103 w/tax minimum plus you have to pay for a pricy airport shuttle and public transportation. I will provide transport from Moscone to your hotel also.

Inquiries at soeet.comATgmail.com.
I leave Tuesday right after work and I'm coming back on Friday. I can take up to 3 people. My car has XM radio and air conditioning, and I may be able to provide wireless through my G1 and T-Mobile.

http://graha.ms/androidproxy/

There is this app, though I have yet to install it. This can be compared to the wifi you would get on Virgin. Except only one rider can use my G1 at a time. Thanks for the post! Most people on CL are not going to the conference, so here is a much better place to ask.

Very cool to see how some have huge potential, despite not winning ... yet!

I just recommend tech starts get WAY MORE CREATIVE with NAMES... move past the familiar.
