[...] But it appears that the worst is over for now. Or at least, the broad indicators suggest that venture and entrepreneurial activity has stabilized and may in some cases be trending up. In Q2 2009 we tracked via CrunchBase a total of 400 estimated new startups founded, $6.4 billion in new venture capital financings and $15.8 billion in merger and acquisition activity. (Download the full report here for $195) And we only tracked 20,000 new layoffs, just 10% of the 200,000 we saw let go in Q1 2009. [...]

I think it's quite humerous that the whole article talks mainly about the doom and gloom for tech start-ups. Not very up lifting anyway. Then the article goes on to blame the slumping economy for the shifts ( I agree). However, despite the fact that the article is about lack of cash flow or fear of spending on new risky start-ups, at the end it asks for $149 and $450 for the statistical reports.

I just think it's a bit ironic and really wonder how many people are buying the report right after reading the article. LOL!

Current financing might be a real challenge for innovators and start up leaders. For many companies the crisis is the chance to take over their competitors. They're waiting ... hungry.

Interesting data -- thanks, TC.

Happily, there are also other under-the-radar startups being founded (like our angel-backed stealth-mode startup) that wouldn't be captured by CB yet.

Entrepreneurs are going to help pull us out of this recession, yet!

hey mike...

since you've stated in the past that musicians should live with piracy, and find some other way of making money.

can i get a copy of your review for $149.00 and then give it away.

that way, you can't accuse me of making money off of your work...

is that ok, or consistent with your philosophy on digital copying?

just checking!
