NO one seems to have mentioned money, "Do you know where your dollar bills have been?" I always insist on crisp unused $100 bills from the bank. I have two ways to deal with the purchase of a $20 item, either I say I don't want change thankyou, or I get the server to lay out the change notes in a row and flash out a bottle of chlorox from my pocket and give them a quick spray asking the cashier to turn them over. That done I blow on them to dry and then pick them up. Mind you my lungs are eaten up by all that chlorox vapor.

Medically germs are good for you, present everywhere, to build up antibodies. Very different for viruses like H1N1, and wash hands, no handshakes makes great sense. I just can't be rude though! (Victorian---sorry)

Always up for revolutions!

This is the funniest comment section I've ever seen!

"...Hand thruster." Hahahah

A fist is just as personal. Just make it confident and put your own style into it.

I'm thinking up some controversial posts for my blog, and a few that I'm launching.

And I never read techchrunch, but I'm going to start now.

Lol, I disagree. My bathroom procedure consists of pushing the towel lever down first until I get about 2 feet of towel, then I turn on the faucet and wash, then I rip the towel off, dry my hands, turn off the faucet with the towel, then open the bathroom door with towel and throw it into the trash on the way out. I've been doing this for years.

I'm also the same guy who pushes public doors open by either touching anywhere 12 inches above or below the handle, or I Just use my foot.

Then when I get in my car, GermX is behind the seat.

Hi,

I am the founder and President of Gloves-R-Us (http://www.safeglovesrus.com. We develop, market and distribute a line of gloves for professionals in the workplace that can be accessorized with both formal (i.e. "boardroom") wear and more casual (i.e. "silicon alley") looks.

They are hypo-allergenic, woven by a Peruvian Women's Collective (outside Lima, Peru), dyed using natural dyes, packaged using 100% recycled materials, and shipped from Peru worldwide with ZERO carbon footprint (through the use of carbon credits). Fifty percent of all EBITDA gets funneled back into the Peruvian Women's Collective on health and education needs, and the rest (after taking care of operating costs) is put back into R&D.

Please also visit our sister-site: http://www.pandemicsrus.com for information on unique fund-raising opportunities.

Peace,

[...] A Revolution Begins: OpenCandy Has A Board Meeting And No One Shakes Hands "stop the barbaric practice once and for all" Michael Arrington is, it seems, on a mission to end hand-shaking, fearful of germs. Speaking as someone who does wash his hands – every time – and who does like to shake hands, I find myself being described by the TechCrunch editor as "barbaric". Ludicrous. Let us not confuse the unhygeinic with the barbaric. What about a campaign to get people to wash their hands in public toilets instead? (tags: handshake) [...]

While we're on the topic, there's some things about this I've always wondered.

1) When you grab the handle to open the door and exit a restroom, will your hand pick up more germs when it is damp from just washing or dry from not washing? I think we need to dry really well after washing.

2) If we reduce our exposure to germs, does that make us more or less susceptible to getting sick? In line with getting preventative injections, a little bit of exposure can be a good thing.

If the goal is to reduce exposure, eliminate all physical contact with strangers. Can we really expect the other person to not have touched the back of their own hand before touching their fist to ours? In the context of possible transfer, that is a risky assumption.

Maybe we need a study on the six degrees of transference.

As for the splinter groups, some were Mike's idea:

"You can do a fist touch instead. or a solid, respectful head nod. I’ll even start bowing if I have to."

The head nod works for me.

But, I know what this is really all about. Mike wants to know how much he can influence trends, especially outside of tech. ;)
