Very true, I checked qik out a while back, and was not impressed at all. Terrible quality, actually everything about it was pretty terrible.

Brightcove can’t even get profitable and they have 1000 times the market share of Kyte.

Kyte’s done a great job getting ahead of the feature curve for their clients. Look, kyte is helping a bunch of old-media folks (MTV/SPIN) leapfrog Brightcove’s customers. That’s valuable.

Kyte charges business customers (i.e. media companies, rock stars, etc) for bandwidth as well as for iPhone app development. That is why the consumer service is a throwaway. The money is with serving the media cos.

Most of those 50 million weren’t at kyte.com, unlike AOL. So they are basically just giving free bandwidth away. AOL is actually monetizing their views.

Most people aren’t going to spend the money to use the Kyte platform, including businesses.

From what I’ve heard in the industry, these are basically PR announcements, with little true value creation.
