If you own an iPhone or iPod touch you’ve probably at least heard of QuickPWN, the jailbreaking tool. You’d think Apple doesn’t want you know know about it, because it allows you to open up your iPhone to use apps outside of the App Store ecosystem. But looks what we found: In Apple’s own webapp directory, Apple has a listing for QuickPWN.
And in fact, if you do a Google search for “QuickPwn Apple,” this directory listing is the number one result. Granted, this is just a webapp directory listing, so it’s not like Apple let a QuickPWN third-party app slip by the App Store approval process, but still, it’s kind of funny to see it there. And the developer who put it there (who, incidentally, is not associated with the actual QuickPWN Dev Team) is planning to try to make an actual App Store app soon, he tells us.
Good luck getting that in there — but you never know, stranger things have gotten through the approval nets.
Update: And like that — it’s gone.

He had his chance up until this post.
Same thought i had.
Shaking babies is one thing, but compromising Apple’s control over applications? Never!
ha.
wats up?? how are you??
I bet the Apple folks actually like things like this. If someone wants your product, but found how to use it for something unintended, will you ask them to stop buying it or just sell them the product? It makes no sense to hold the product back from being used just because it isn’t being used exactly as you want.
Apple might face an issue with cell carriers or something though, which could be a roadblock.
This is what Silicon Valley doesn’t understand. “If you own an iPhone or iPod touch you’ve probably at least heard of QuickPWN, the jailbreaking tool.”
No, no, and more no. That statement is ridiculous. The average user has no idea what jailbreaking is, and probably still uses IE6. Come on Techcrunch. Get with the real world.
I use QuickPWN. Let me tell you that before you use it with Windows you need the .NET framework installed. I think it’s v2.
QuickPWN is not only used for Jailbreaking, you can use it to change the startup splash screen to a pineapple or you can install Cydia with it. Cydia is a superior app store full of FREE SOFTWARE for the iPhone. Such as an SSH server, and other useful tools.
Cydia is a store in itself.
Looks like Apple wants all of us to Jail Break our iPhones so that the warranty is void and in if phone goes wrong , they would force us to get a new iPhone
Page has disappeared unsurprisingly
Looks like Apple shut it down. It was short lived and glorious.
And I thought only their app approval process was tough.
Apple certainly didn’t expect the App Store to get so popular. They just don’t have the system in place to handle the traffic they are receiving from developers.
While they may not have know about the popularity and the resulting issues, they most certainly know about the process and how to fix it. This I doubt that they will do.
My primary example is iTunes. A raging success. How many reps are there? Three. For everybody. Metrics and sales information? Not much. So, how do you imagine that they will fix the App Store?
Unfortunately Apple removed it about an hour ago! I’ve resubmitted and posted an update on my site about this.
Just to clarify, this wasn’t really a link to any sort of app that would have jailbroken the iPhone. It was just a link to the QuickPWN blog (optimized for iPhone view with the WPtouch WordPress plugin).
Apple censorship strikes again.
