We received devastating news that Nahum Sharfman, founder of Shopping.com, and his wife, Nava, died in a plane crash in Greece. According to The Marker (the article is in Hebrew, here’s the translated version), Sharfman, who was a well-known entrepreneur in the Israeli tech space, perished in a plane crash on the Greek island of Korfo. The story has also been broken on Twitter. Initial reports attribute the cause of the crash to human error combined with severe weather conditions.
A successful entrepreneur, Sharfman founded Shopping.com which he brought to a successful IPO in 2004. Shopping.com was later acquired by eBay for $650 million. Earlier, Sharfman co-founded Commtouch and also brought the security technology company to an IPO in 2000. Prior to starting his own ventures, Sharfman spent 11 years working for National Semiconductor. He received a Ph.D. in High Energy Nuclear Physics from Carnegie Mellon University and M.S. and B.S. degrees in Physics from the Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology. Sharfman was also chairman of social content sharing site enips.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Nahum and Nava Sharfman’s family and friends at this time.

RIP!

very sad
This is most devastating news – I was recruited by Nahum Sharfman back in 1996 as president of Commtouch and there began an incredible strong and wonderful relationship and friendship with him and Nava which I will treasure for all time and will be so very very sorely missed.
He was , they both were, truly inspiring people and role models of how to be in life and business.
My and Alexander’s thoughts and prayers are with Nahum and Nava’s dear families and many dear friends, at this most difficult time
Aah, even with such sad news the twitter plugs continue: “The story has also been broken on Twitter.”
what do you mean exactly that is has also been broken on Twitter? There is only ONE place that a story can be broken. Was it first on Twitter? Then and only then would it deserve a mention.
Annoying and irreverent…. but a good point nonetheless.
yeah that did kinda cheapen the whole article . who cares where it was broken a human being just lost their life .
news is people dying
+1
agreed
Thoughts with the family.
RIP
Very sad news.
i met nahum while at shopping and was touched by what a nice guy he was…my thoughts go out to his family.
Sharfman was a part of the group at dealtime which became shopping.com (and should be credited with the sale to eBay) after CMGI fell apart in early 2000 and acquired the name from the previous online retailer. Shopping.com was originally founded in late ‘96 (unrelated to Sharfman) and sold to Compaq. http://findarti...15/ai_55748848/

I know it doesn’t matter much, but he was scheduled to land in the island of Corfu (not korfo) (this is where I am right now while reading this sad news from Techcrunch). My thoughts to his family.
And what a sad little site eBay have turned shopping.com into now.
As a Shopping.com alum, my thoughts are with the SDC family and the Sharfums today. So sad.
Sad to know this news. May his soul rest in peace.
Ditto. May his soul rest in peace.
It’s esnips, not enips.
This is such a sad news and terrible loss. I met Nahum several times and he was brilliant, kind, funny and discrete. I was always amazed this person that created 2 majors hits in Israel remained so behind the scene.
Very sad news. God bless, RIP.
Terrible news. May they rest in peace.

Spam somewhere else, please. Nahum did so much for high tech, the internet and people in general. His memory and the pain of those who knew him should not be disturbed by your hawking your product.
There are truly sad news. My thoughts are with his family. Just a small correction.
His plane crashed in Kefalonia and not in Corfu.
A truly great man. Knew how to be good, humble, friendly and a businessman. Never seen anything like that before – or since. I hope he makes a good mark in heaven as he did here on earth…
The automated Google translation is horrible. Here is the English version from the English version of TheMarker (Haaretz daily newspaper): http://www.haar...es/1081960.html
RIP – what a great, humble man; what a terrible loss to anyone who had the privilege to personally know him.
There are conflicting reports. Some reports say he crashed on Corfu, some Kefallonia, some Zakynthos. Those are all very different islands.
On Away, we have confirmed that his plane crashed in the area of Enos, which is in Kefalonia. Corfu was the final destination of his flight.
May God give them peace in his kingdom. The plane went down on the island of Kefalonia 4000 ft in the mountain of Ainos..in a ravine area very unapproachable and dangerous. It was very cloudy and windy, they shouldn’t have been flying, really. Their radar mustn’t have been working; because the last signal was in the sea which was being searched all night nad at daybreak they finally located them, burnt to a crisp , it was a horrible sight.. These are facts I live under the area it went down.
Please, some respect for the dead. The aviation authorities will determine who / what is at fault – not you – and the words you use to describe their condition is just not appropriate to describe two human beings.
What a sad story. Great man!
Am so hurt!!!! His my 2nd father!!!! THIS IS BAD NEWS!!!!
