[...] Techcrunch reported yesterday that although a quiet debut, Myspace Local is now open to the US public. It's a joint collaboration between Citysearch and Myspace, offering reviews of local resaurants, bars, pubs and other nightlife listings, with more categories coming in the near future. Many would agree that this approach is more personalized. You can see reviews left by your friends and your reviews will get syndicated back to your profile. But why create a new destination site (and not just use MySpaceID)? Some say it's because of MySpace Local is meant to appeal to a different audience and increased ad revenue. [...]

the whole local play for myspace is a great move.. one reason myspace has lagged lately was because, frankly, there has been no local component of the site. If you're like me most of your myspace friends are people you've never met whereas facebook is the opposite. Adding the MySpace Local at least gives the site a potential geo-community to make up for the fact that you didn't go to high school or college with your myspace friends.

I wish them the best of luck! Maybe it will work. I don't know why, but Myspace has become yesteryear.

Kinda of hearkens back to the days of Morgan, Vanderbilt and Rockefeller and other moguls and building empires from their empires. OK, Murdoch and Diller aren't quite robber barons, but an old guy like me has to have some perspective.

My Space has provided a social network for it's members. To offer another avenue of socializing with such an easy connection is most beneficial to it's followers. After all, a social network - neighborhood is more about how to keep the people in the site and not drive them away from it. So, to keep within that realm of thought, what better way to stay in-tune with the times and the needs of it's members, than to provide another useful and linked feature.

The Title can be "MyAds open to Public". I wonder why MySpace people think this works. Worse why advertisers think it does when the whole network is on the verge of a stagnation (compared to its competitors). Maybe this is a good move, but where do you bring in users from and how are going to give yourself a facelift? Sigh!
