FOX News and MySpace are partnering to launch Fox’s citizen journalism social media platform on MySpace, called uReport. MySpace members can share citizen produced content with the MySpace community, as well as have the chance to be featured on FOX News. FOX News and MySpace are both owned by News Corp.
FOX News uReport, which is nearly identical to CNN’s citizen journalism initiative iReport, is a platform through which users can upload photos and videos to FOX News from a computer or mobile device. Members of the MySpace-uReport community can become “uReporters” by uploading video and photos tagged by specific news categories, including entertainment and politics. FOX says that this content could be featured in programming on FOX News Channel and foxnews.com, with FOX News maintaining editorial control of the MySpace page.
CNN’s iReport has a Facebook page where iReporters can upload footage, photos and content to the platform but it’s unclear if this footage is used on CNN.com or on the CNN news channel. CNN’s iReport famously caused Apple’s stock to drop after someone posted a false rumor about Steve Jobs having a heart attack. Fox may have missed its chance, since the most activity on CNN’s iReport was leading up to the presidential election and inauguration. CNN partnered with Facebook to cover the inauguration events in January.

uReport has been around for a while. well before CNN’s alternative. They also take information from facebook and twitter.
Very slick.
Have you seen hookk? It maps citizen reactions to the news in a sidebar next to the news item.
The hookk can be no longer than 120 characters and is generally the subtext to an article.
The interesting thing is that it has been launched “sea worthy” as the founder puts it. So you can follow them on twitter to see the site being built as it is being used.
Worth checking out. http://hookk.com – http://twitter.com/hookk
Prepare for MySpace to be the home of nothing more than Red State wackos as the non-neocon bunch bails.
Uhh… Ok.
Dont be an ass.
The ratings indicate way more than just “neocons” watch it.
I suppose you are a Olbermann fan?
Indeed.
I’m pleased to see the people in charge at MySpace fully cementing the fact that MySpace and Fox News are directly connected. Maybe it will help users wake up.
MySpace: a place for friends*
*and supporting Murdoch’s bank account, misinformation, and tabloid fear-mongers like Glenn Beck, O’Reilly, and Hannity.
CNN at least purchased the iReport.com domain… although long after they launched the initial iReport platform.
How long until Fox follows suit? (they do not own uReport.com)
cnn bought ireport.com for 750 thousand. fox dont own ureport.com.
JournalistLocator.com – truth be told
It’s only going to make it harder for them to buy uReport.com for a reasonable price now that it’s a launched News Corp property.
Plus, why host it on Myspace rather than Fox News’ site? I know that Myspace is a social network, but is there anyone on Myspace who’s interested? Haven’t they all moved to Facebook and Twitter?
Why on myspace? I don’t think the myspace.com demographics and Fox News demographics intersect well…
iReport, uFollow
lol wat kan go rong w dis?
I think uRupert would have been a better brand name.
So you can make up any crap you want to that’s anti-liberal and they’ll call it news?
But you’re ok with the anti-conservative crap that comes up on citizen journalist sites like DailyKos?
Daily Kos has never made the claim to being “fair and balanced.” Fox pioneered hyper partisan news coverage, and MSNBC has now followed suit from the left. However, even MSNBC at least has moderates on the air, like Joe Scarborough(former Republican congressman) mixed in with their Olberman/Maddow liberal nuts. Fox has O’Reilly to mellow out their Glenn Beck/Sean Hannity mix of fear mongering.
Beck is a steaming piece of crap, and it was irresponsible of Fox to put him on the air. He was bad enough on CNN. My favorite moment of seeing him was when he had Bob Barr on, talking about Libertarianism. Beck starts talking about how great the concept of small government is, and then he lights in to Barr for supporting decriminalization of marijuana, “I mean, legalizing marijuana? That’s just crazy. I used to be an alcoholic, and I know that drugs are dangerous.”
Exactly why we will never see a Libertarian Republican party again, because of moralist douchebags like Beck being paraded on mainstream television.
Beck was on headline news prior to Fox and pulled in incredible numbers. He’s appealing to far more than just right wing whackos.
I’m not familiar with the DailyKos, but since liberals never lie I’d probably be ok with it.
sarcasm?
There is news and there is opinion. Try to learn the difference. Fox News has as many news shows as they do opinion. You and your type just want to cherry pick Fox news because of what side their opinions fall.
But MSNBC/CNN’s angle is ok on their opinion shows because, well, they are along your line of thinking.
I have major beefs with ALL the news outlets as they all arent working for the people but for their own ratings/agendas. That’s fine and dandy I suppose but im entitled to that opinion like Fox is theirs.
There will be plenty of “tea bagger” news I guess

Somebody should create a channel that middle and/or high school students could use to broadcast their own news stories. I’d be happy to help them do this.

Hopefully, this new media venture by MySpace, Fox & NewsCorp will not only help publishers get additional exposure for websites and blogs, but it’ll allow pub’s to earn ad revenue in the near future
There should be an IQ test of some sort before people are able to participate in these citizen journalism tools. Of course that would cut out 99% of the Fox news watchers.
Bullsh*t. This whole ‘i’ and ‘u’ came from Apple’s ‘i’Pod. So CNN and Fox News is guilty of unoriginality.
Typical. Apple invented the letter “i”
So if you get featured, do you get compensated for your work? That is the key question. Interesting that they chose uReport as their name. Does CNN need to worry?
