It’s funny to me that people think the only thing twitter is good for is useless updates. It’s very useful for my business. We are in the gaming business so connecting with other gamers across the country and the world is always great. Twitter is one way to do it.

If we are having a tournament or a contest we just post a tweet. Need to get some news out post a tweet. Need writers for a review or something else on our site we post a tweet.

Yes you can post silly useless stuff on twitter, but you don’t have to. Take it for what it is. It’s self promotion and nothing more. If some celebs want to use it to raise money for something or if Oprah wants her zombie army to follow her great. It doesn’t mean I have to follow her.

Spam will increase. remember all the Myspace spam around 05 and 06? Those guys who did it all didn’t disappear. They’re always on the look out for the next big thing to spam. FB was tougher because of it’s structure. Twitter is a different story.

indeed twitter has a ’shield’ against the oprah effect because you choose who you follow. however, inevitably, the post-oprah masses will pollute the system via small leaks that get retweeted and accumulate due to their sheer number. i expect to have the first link to an oprah-related video, blog post etc. tweeted to me within the week

Before you know the precise definition of “spam” in this context, don’t use it. Spam in electronic communication always means messages that are “push” to you. She published her opinions, justified her opinions with evidences that she has, and gave her real address etc. She didn’t “push” any messages to you. Also, have you heard about statistic sampling?
