Seesmic will unveil a new version of it’s Twhirl Twitter client tonight at a press event starting around 6:30. Not many details on what they’re launching yet, other than the fact that they’ve rebuilt Twhirl, which has been downloaded 1.2 million times.
Seesmic isn’t releasing details, but the site they’ve set up for the new product shows the screenshot above, with multiple columns like TweetDeck, the new kid on the block that has taken the hearts of the Twitter elite. TweetDeck is far and away the most popular desktop client for Twitter.
More details when the event starts, which you can watch from home here. You can sign up for the new version here. Note that I am an investor in Seesmic.

I would LOVE for this to be better than Tweetdeck. Tweetdeck, at least for professional uses of Twitter, is king…but I’d love for Seesmic to knock it off it’s thrown. I feel that Loic and the rest of the Seesmic team listen to their community much better than Tweetdeck does
Can’t wait to see it!
I use Tweetdeck but will try this too. Thx TC!
Tweetdeck sucks, The whole multi column layout is worthless. Twhirl has always been better for me
I really could not disagree more. If you follow more than 12 people, Twhirl is a pain in the ass. TD is a much simpler system.
I have twitter fatigue. I can’t stand to hear anything more about twitter. I might puke the next time somebody says ‘twitter’.
Somebody make it stop. Where are you new startups? Give people something to talk about.
I have no objections to Twhirl adding a multi-column ‘option’ but I really hope it will be optional as I much prefer Twhirl’s light-weight interface over Tweetdeck.
C’mon Mike, since you’re an investor, surely you know what’s going on — bust the embargo and let us know. Enquiring Mimes want to know;-)
I really think DestroyTwitter should be mentioned. It is certainly worth a look. http://www.destroytwitter.com
I second that. It is a fantastic app that, if it doesn’t already, will definitely rival tweetdeck.
I would like one of these multi-column style layouts in a browser tab.
All I need is real-time FriendFeed and Twitter and I’d be happy. Honestly, I am not a big fan of standalone apps for IM, Twitter or any of these other social networking services.
It has gotten to the point where I look forward to the day where I can do all of my social interaction in my browser. This includes email, IM, FriendFeed, Twitter, Facebook. etc., etc.
Mike, just curious any updates or news on how your orderly divestment of stocks is going? (http://www.tech...ly-to-everyone/)
I don’t see no option for filters, no option to select the browser of my choice to open links. It even crashed right after few minutes. Well, the crash I can live with but I fail to see any improvements over the already available clients or even the ones they currently have. I’m going to go back to Twitterfox (though I wish they’d introduce filters and search options soon).
So Twhril is no longer being developed?
“they’ve rebuilt Twhirl”
Is tweetdeck down? Can’t get client to show any data and website doesn’t load for me….
Also just noticed all favorites, direct message and @youname messages are deleted in twitter… weak.
