Half my problem with sites like Twitter and Facebook et all is that it seems I have the same group of friends on each site and using Friendfeed as well would just increase this duplication to an amazing level. I do like some of their features though.

We had made an video interview wit Bret Taylor of FriendFeed. I agree what he had said there. There is an enough space for FriendFeed, twitter and other services.

http://www.buzla.com/internet/FriendFeedin_kurucusu_Bret_Taylor_sorularinizi_cevapliyor

Regarding simplicity:
FF is used by bloggers who like these cool things. Not because they're cool, but these things are meaningful for them.

I believe it's not right to say simplicity is the only way to success. Yes if your product is simple, its more possible that you can reach mass easier. But is it all we want high traffic (yes we sometimes do)?

I think the below example makes a sense (I'm not to saying that this is the only way to compare services):

Assume that twitter and FF are not free? Which one will probably be profitable or more meaningful for people?

Answer could be still be twitter, but it's for sure (at least for me and most bloggers in FF) that people will be eager to pay more for FriendFeed.

I've said this a million times: things that succeed on the web are built on simplicity.

Those in the tech world/startup world tend to view everything from a techy's perspective. For us, innovation is good. But in the mainstream, people don't really care about truly innovative products. To them, what's simple is innovative.

Build something simple. That's it.

I know Scoble tells us to like Friendfeed and I'm supposed to like it, but I don't, and not because I'm a "novice" and "overwhelmed" as Arrington so condescingly and typically puts it.

No, it's because Friendfeed has too many features that power users use to block others and arrogate themselves.

Anyone can delete anyone else's comment under a discussion. Who wants to be on a service where that can happen to you, not because you've incited racism or rabid hatred, but because the OP doesn't like your criticism. On Twitter, that can't happen. You can follow-block me, but I can see you any way in Twitter search, which I can RSS to Google reader and keep responding -- and that's important for a free society.

I also don't like all the comments piling up, then being hidden from view, so you have to click on them. Hey, if I wanted to go on some forums or blog with hundreds of comments to wade through, I would, but I don't. I don't want that on real-time.

Scoble has a high degree of comfort level because he has a zillion friends, and he also has hand-picked out those friends he really wants to hear from in a group, and further culls and deletes any strays, so he has his living room convo attuned to his liking.

But someone like me who is not a power A-list blogger would have to first agitate to get thousands of friends, then work overtime to cull out hate and spam -- and who has the time? Twitter is just a faster and cleaner trip, with the @ reply showing up in your box immediately, like an email to you, instead of buried in comments.

The very thing that is supposed to make Friendfeed "better," it's comments, is what buries it.

Google's Wave copies a lot of it, and will co-opt without buying it. Why should it buy what it already co-opted?
