Apple could lower the price of their computers by putting stickers all over them. That is what the competition does - they subsidize the cost by these advertisements. Likewise, TV spots by computer vendors are subsidized by Intel - that is why you see the Intel jiggle and logo at the end. Apple could do the same, but they choose not to. Because Apple takes responsibility for selling their own stuff, it costs more money to do.

Well Glad to see the MAC Cult out here posting...

M$ had a good point, MACs cost a lot. Also Windows dominates the PC world, when you have Millions of all different PC's using the product, Like a Drug that has side effects, you are going to have some problems with some machines, If you stick with the good manufacturers Lik Dell and HP then you have much fewer problems with the PC's since the Drivers and internals are more streamlined just like an Apple product.

So, since many MAC Posters like to over step plain logic and base what they say on Hearsay ( since many have not used a PC that much nor are a Tech/programmer like me) I like to balance the posts.

Macs fail to, Iv'e seen it too but I do not spend my time with all the stories of hearsay and I do not Love M$ but they have decent OS's in XP and Windows 7, Office is the top Business product.

I find Mac people have trouble dealing with it.

If one says that she "is not cool enough to be a mac person" does that means that being a windows person is uncool?
In some respects this ad is also a thumbs up for Apple

Say what you want about the legendary Mac quality, after 2 years of owning a MacBook pro, you're ready for a new one. There are some of you out there who probably hold on to them for 5-10 years, but you're getting pretty outdated after 2 years. Definitely not cool anymore if your MBP is older than that. People will definitely notice, Apple keeps changing the form factor. And did I mention the cost of replacing the battery? You could buy a new Dell for that plus replacing the power cord...well, just about.

Ah well...I do love my Macs, but the price is steep. Most of my PC friends have had their PCs a lot longer than I've had my MBP, and I'm already itching to get a new one...it's only 2.5 years old. Runs well...only a few dents...

Did Lauren enter the Mac Store at all?

When she is entering the store there is a man in spectacles, in a brown jacket, striped tee and jeans (BJJ)whom she walks past, and the next second when she is out of the store after having checked the mac line up, our BJJ is probably moved another 10 feet ahead.

Oh come on... the 'CAMERA 2' could've at least waited for a few more seconds before it rolled again. It just kills the whole testimonial ad for me, making it sound like a lie, and you probably briefed Lauren about the $1000 Mac while she was in the car, then told her walk up and walk out. CUT.

Good Commercial. Bad Lie.

"You sure are ignorant about web developers AND fashion"
Well in fact... i've been a web developer myself for 10 years. Now, i employ developers to work on "my" website about music. And of course in the music world, we know nothing about fashion.

"ever heard of Marissa Mayer?"
Yeah of course, i saw many videos with her. But do you realize that she's not a developer anymore for a long time ?
Ever heard of Ian Hickson ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIxDJof7xxQ
He clearly is a fashion victim... and of course, uses a Mac.

"And if you truly want reliable software, you’d be running Linux instead of some closed-source junk like Mac OS"
Mac OS X IS reliable. And i chose it because the same tasks (that I need to do) take less time to be performed with OS X than with Windows, KDE or Gnome.
Plus, it has a lot of software i love (GarageBand, Photoshop...) and i still can use Internet Explorer to check that my website is ok in this sh*tty browser.
I also like Safari (but Chrome really impressed me).

So i'm using a mac because it saves me plenty of time, can run almost all Linux Software (Apache, PHP, MySQL, ImageMagick...), can run excellent proprietary software or proprietary software i have to use and (for my first MacBook) because the keyboard and the trackpad were perfect for me.

I have read alot of trash on the rplies above and alot of well educated retorts. I started on a PC as that is what I could afford but as a designer always felt that I was not quite their until I final got a 24inch iMac last year. I also purchased Final Cut Studio Pro, iWorks and Carrera for 3D.

Was I wrong to feel that in order to be a designer I needed a Mac?

After thinking about it I decided that it was not wrong and here is why.

If I were to be an F1 driver I would want the best I could get to get the job done. I would percieve the best to be whatever had the most success to date such as a Ferrari. Now if what I could afford at the time was Kia then I could still be and F1 driver but I may not get the results or the industry respect that I need to be a high achiever in that field.

When it comes to design Apple has mostly (apart from the dark times when good old Mr Jobs was not at Apple) kept their eye on the ball by producing design orientated products and have a proven success in that industry. So it is valid that if you want to be a top designer you will probable at some stage switch to a Mac.

However if I were to choose a machine purly based on price and compatability with cheaper upgrades and accessories I would probably go for a PC.

I really enjoy using a Mac as it suits my perception of myself and has everything I want they way I like it. However I think their is a lot going for PC's too. Most of the time I bet you readers tho are doing everything throught the browser anyway so it matters less what machine you are on.

If the Mac vs PC has caused microsoft to up their game in terms of advertising and will convince them to take more care in their operating system then I think that is a positive outcome for PC users. In turn Apple will continue to improve their products and service to keep their success in place to so we are all winners with this advert.

Windows is cheaper, I've never had any problems with hardware/software that I myself did not cause, the Apple adverts constantly 'bashing' Windows also made me sway towards Windows (all these advert-based bashing sessions where one company bashes another just annoys me and eventually revokes a response from said bashed company, I saw Apple bashing first, so I slewed away from Mac from then on).

One thing I like about Windows, is you can Just stick it on anything. You cant throw together a really basic PC for nothing what so ever in terms of cost on in today's market is considered low specification parts, and Windows will run effortlessly. Throw together a really high specification PC and it will run at mind-boggling speed.

I tend to see that Mac force feed you hardware which you cannot really upgrade yourself. In today's day and age, it's smart to buy a desktop PC. As well as them being cheap to start with everyone knows a friend who is 'good with computers' and If you find that after 4 to 5 years, your bog standard PC you bought to use the internet is starting to get bogged down with running all the applications you've installed, you can ask this friend to take a look, who can then stick some more RAM (or 'Memory') in the desktop for you, therefore you get another 2 to 3 years worth of life out of it. The hardware to upgrade laptop PC's is also readily available.

I not aware that you can upgrade a Mac with such ease.

It is just a computer OS guys *breathe*

This debate has been beaten to death, and seriously it is the most pointless thing to argue about in the history of interwebs. I calculate about 2 trillion nerd hours have been wasted on lametards that think telling other lametards what operating system is better and why.

Here is the end all of all computer OS arguments;

Unix: I am elite, and you can all suck my bills.

Windows: I don't want to offend anybody, but my windows XP runs fine.

Mac: I have a very expensive computer. If I don't talk about how much I love it, and make everyone else feel inferior I might create a blackhole.

macs rarely fail. i recently switched to mac because my pcs ALWAYS failed. My entire company uses macs now. And now we have nearly zero IT cost outside of the cost of the computers. No support costs.

There's not really a choice to make anymore. If you work online, store your stuff online, just get a mac.

Apple makes commercials criticizing "PCs" because whatever share they can take from Windows is a great win for them. But besides bragging rights, there's very little that MS can win from the small Mac share by advertising heavily. It's not like going from 93% to 94% will make much of a difference.
