I have been casting multiple channels on justin tv since fec 2008, yes i found out about them from the press re: the live suicide, a lot of people in chat tell me they also found the service via the press from the suicide nov 2008. I cast 3 to 6 movie channels at anytime, i get banned, change ip come back in a few minutes, that process is now fully automated with stand by chans in the wings awaiting cutover. PORN, yeah, there has been porn there, and it is taken down fairly fast. For the father above that took his daughter of ustream and thinks jtv is ok, are u high, NO ONE should EVER allow their child to cast on the net, JTV is FULL of pervs, stalkers pedophiles and they so NOT post in the chat, they WATCH, and I WATCH THEM. Case in point, from one I reported to the center for missing and exploited children. Two girls, 11 and 12, claiming to be in italy, but in LA CA, open a channel and invite BOYS to see them strip, take the channel private and are there for two weeks. The BOYS that had profiles of teen boys, proved to be old men in there 40's and up. They favorited the channel (stupid as it allowed to spirder their friends an favs) and proceeded to have a two week party with these girls. This culminated after two weeks with these girls displaying and manipulating their unclothed pre-teen bodies including on screen close up of their genetalia. At times the cast would abort as a parent was heard approaching, then would resume. No, I never WATCHED, but I did review their archives that they never cleared, noted times and dates, and got all the names of those in the room (at least the ones dumb enough to logon to jtv and watch). Then forwarded all to FBI which sent me to the CFMEC. Was this isolated ?
Not really, probably the youngest i have seen, but since Dec 2008 I have noted there are ALWAYS young underage girls willing to perform on JTV and some willing to go further. It will be a number of years before any statue of limitations runs out on these SHOWS, and many have been saved forever and placed on the net, to come back one day in the form of litigation, criminal or civil, to which JTV or its BUYER may be exposed to whatever extent. BUY JTV ?
LOL, not me.

[...] TechCrunch notes that most of this traffic is generated outside of the United States, and what we have seen seems to back this up. Viewership globally is twice that of the US, and rapidly outpacing their competitors. Domestically, the landscape is a lot more competitive, with Hulu easily trouncing Justin.tv for monthly unique viewers. The other streaming video sites are not all direct competitors, however. Of the ones listed, Ustream.tv would be closest to the same format, and others such as Stickam and Seesmic are much smaller. [...]

im one of the JTV illegal broadcasters and its my view that illegal content will likely become flagged by copyright owners ( witch has already happened) forcing JTV to remove the offending content..

But the quality of the content is not DVD or even VHS yet, mostly due to laggy servers and dropped connections as well as missing minutes from a broadcast.

To sum up the service needs improvements before it will be a real threat to say your local cable service.

As for porn, very little of that there, the current user base keep a close eye out and report promptly ..

The quality of the video service is what keeps it out of trouble, would you pay for a movie broadcast on JTV... NOT..

It really should be considered more of preview service that saves you the viewer money, how many videos have you paid for/bought and afterwards considered it a waste ?, and had you seen it first on JTV decided not to buy/rent it !

I'm the second french broadcaster & lifecaster since mid-July 2007 and really involved around JTV community. I am one of the JTV french translator, I help french and foreign people. With my friend CC30, french broadcaster, we have a dedicated blog, who help people with post, JTv news into 10 languages. We spend a lot of our time to help JTV community.
(btw: our work isn't recognize)

We really like JTV, especially from Apr 2007 to Mid 2008, when there was only internet lifecasting. Now, there are so sports channel, movies, games.
Where is the place for lifecasters ? Forgotten...
Now, JTV can thank sports, soccer, movies viewers, they are #1 thanks to them !
But remember, Justin.tv is based on the lifecasting, without lifecasting, JTV wouldn't be here...
Live streaming video is a very good idea, this is why we are and we support Justin.tv but depends what kind of contents.

I have been a long standing member of justin.tv for close to two years and have witnessed their tremendous growth and enhancements. Additionally I am one of their news columnists on their website in which I write for their headlines feature. I have to say that this site has been a tremendous source for networking and I believe Justin.tv can surpass their already amazing potential with further consideration for those active members that dedicate their time to globally assist in translating this website's new technologies and advances to non US members.

WTF? Hulu isn't available overseas, as you pointed out. So what's w/ the different figures for OS/US?

Um... as Hulu isn't accessible in many parts of the world, anyone that's open globally should see good growth.

In addition to that, Google's biggest winning point is that it's miles ahead in most countries in the world while it battles Yahoo in the US. It's this global support that will ensure that they remain number one in the US as well - more funds.

As for the content. Well that's a whole other matter.

It will be interesting to see how sites like justin.tv fare as mainstream media is increasingly starting to stream (with ads) online for free. They do offer some decent legal channels but some of their illegal streaming (sports especially) could become increasingly obsolete.

I guess many of the comments gets the idea.
Justintv broadcast many illegal programs, and that is the reason why they have gain so much.
I think they will be stopped, special now that some people are creating channels where they ask for money to have access to fast broadcast.
I think the way to go with video would be p2p I like the soapcast models.

"Nobody wull buy Justin.tv - they can't" - Is it me or did I just have a Déjà vu?

Hundreds of years ago (in internet years of course) in a kingdom called Silicon Valley there was a princess named YouTube that people said will never, ever find her prince, because she was too ugly and some even went as far as saying that only a "moron" will marry her, but as fate would have it, she not only got married, she also got a wedding ring worth $1.65B...

The moral: You can be ugly and all, but still get "laid"...

;-)
