Tagging is the (near) future. It means we are not longer restricted to finding things in directories or sub-directories. With thousands of files in hundreds of directories, using a mac already makes finding random files almost instant.

cmd + spacebar and the (spotlight) search box appears, the results rarely fail. When they do, I know I needed to have tagged those files.

Ensuring they are tagged appropriately ensures I can find them in an instant. So whether we have OCD, or are just geeks, however you want to label us Leena - you found it first, thanks. Finding files just got easier. Nice post. ;-)

uh, tagit from ironic software - http://www.ironicsoftware.com/ - is *identical* in structure, uses same openmeta standard, better interface and is FREE and OPENSOURCE

...why on earth would you tell people to shell out 30 bucks when the better alternative is actually a zero dollar proposition?

Correction: TagLauncher is a similar software that works on Microsoft Windows only (and is $14),

Not all of us who use PCs use Windows. You'd think a site called "TechCrunch" would've grasped that by now, but I guess when you're shilling for Apple, granularity is in the eye of the beholder.

THIS is why I rea tech crunch. Now that I have my HP touchscreen, my plan for the weekend was to organize my Macbook by dumping old files and organizing the ones I want to keep. This will make it alot easier for anal people like me!
