Why do I always find myself getting pulled back into Apple’s sleek and alluring new products? I don’t need tera-byte size time capsule, because a thumb-drive costs a tenth as much and holds up to 60 gigs (and hundreds of files). Until other companies catch on to the appeal of sleek-design technology, Apple is going to keep its competitive advantage.

Those are some great additions but they don't come cheap.. or necessarily at a fantastic value. With windows 7 coming they could use the updates as an insurance policy. Based on justaskgemalto it's worth checking out the differences in digital security with these platforms.

I just ordered the 24″ iMac – my first Mac… They estimate shipping date of Apr 14 and an arrival date of Apr 18 – is it normal for shipping times to be so long?

I’m also in IT and had Mac notebook which had a fair share of problems. I’m skeptical about your zero crashes and on top of that I had to pay extra for an update. Maybe the newer models are built better these days. Oh, yeah, way overpriced but then again Apple doesn’t pay foreigners to develop their software… or do they?

Ryan, please get your butt off the ground and head to an Apple Store and at least try their products… Tell the sales reps to get lost, and fiddle with the products for a sufficient amount of time…

if you hate it, then stick to your pc… but im sure youll get the hang of it and like it…

but i agree with Michel…its really better to just stick to the PC… one thing i find with Apple… THEY FUCKING PURPOSELY MAKE YOUR MACBOOK NOT HAVE THIS AND THAT AND WANT YOU TO BUY EXTRA STUFFS…

I just inherited my wife’s 2006 (or is 2005?) Dell laptop. After putting Windows 7 on it, it runs like a dream, too.

BTW, I did have glue some pieces together because my daughter stepped on it one day. I am sure it wouldn’t have survived if it was a MacBook .

I don’t agree with him. If you have the skills, time and resources to build your own, then go for it. If you want a machine that works with fewer crashes, fewer virus scares and better security, at least consider a Mac. Or build a PC yourself and run Linux on it. Either way.

You’ll find that most people who hate on Apple are those that have never actually used a modern Apple machine for any length of time. I should know, that was me three years ago. Then I wised up and took a good, objective look at them.

@Michel – you can hate Apple, and that’s fine… I’m not a hardcore fanboy by any means, but I do have different definitions of “insane” and “worth it” than you do. I spent $3500 switching over to a MacBook Pro from a lifetime on Windows laptops. Between the machine itself and buying new licenses for my software (Adobe, et. al.), it ran more than three grand. To you, that’s insane and it’s not worth it. To me, it was money that I could afford to spend on a machine that, after more than two years, is still running strong with zero crashes.

Zero. Crashes.

Seriously. I have never had a crash on this machine in over two years. When I was on Windows, it happened monthly, and that’s only because I’ve been in IT for a decade and I know how to set up a Windows machine to minimize the crashes.

Apple does charge for the name, no doubt. The price paid is more than the sum of the parts, I’m not arguing that. But regardless, Apple makes a damn fine laptop and OS, so I’m willing to pay a little extra. What’s the alternative? Build my own? Been there, done that. I have neither the time nor the desire to build my own boxes anymore. Apple works for me.
