Apple just updated just about every little thing they could today including adding a $2,400 24-inch iMac and a faster MacBook Pro. Remember that new Mac Mini with 5 USB ports? It’s real.
Other highlights include:
Airport Extreme – Apple’s latest refresh of the Airport Extreme adds a dual broadcasting mode that simultaneously broadcasts on both the 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz band.
Time Capsule – The new 1TB or 500GB Time Capsule runs dual Wi-Fi, streaming at 802.11n and 802.11g speeds. The Capsule will pick the right band automatically, allowing for more efficient back-ups – a huge issue when transferring large files.
Mac Pro – Two new Mac Pros today with some pretty serious power configurations and very-serious price tags. There’s a quad-core version that starts at $2499 and an eight-core version that starts at $3299.

Technology is just so fast, my macbook pro is already an oldie.

No, that’s what apple wants you to think.
Right, because Dell, HP and all the rest are *so* much better about that.
Wow, another super perceptive anti-corporate revolutionary, you are truly unique, it’s why you read this blog.
No. I just really don’t like Apple. I have no problem with the corporate, i’m working for one, it’s really Apple that make me sick
@Daniel: At least they don’t ask you insane amount of money for product that do not worth it
I accept your point Michel, though perhaps you could further detail why you hate Apple whilst you believe other companies, HP, Dell to reference @daniel are significantly better? ]
@Michel – you can hate Apple, and that’s fine… I’m not a hardcore fanboy by any means, but I do have different definitions of “insane” and “worth it” than you do. I spent $3500 switching over to a MacBook Pro from a lifetime on Windows laptops. Between the machine itself and buying new licenses for my software (Adobe, et. al.), it ran more than three grand. To you, that’s insane and it’s not worth it. To me, it was money that I could afford to spend on a machine that, after more than two years, is still running strong with zero crashes.
Zero. Crashes.
Seriously. I have never had a crash on this machine in over two years. When I was on Windows, it happened monthly, and that’s only because I’ve been in IT for a decade and I know how to set up a Windows machine to minimize the crashes.
Apple does charge for the name, no doubt. The price paid is more than the sum of the parts, I’m not arguing that. But regardless, Apple makes a damn fine laptop and OS, so I’m willing to pay a little extra. What’s the alternative? Build my own? Been there, done that. I have neither the time nor the desire to build my own boxes anymore. Apple works for me.
I’m also in IT and had Mac notebook which had a fair share of problems. I’m skeptical about your zero crashes and on top of that I had to pay extra for an update. Maybe the newer models are built better these days. Oh, yeah, way overpriced but then again Apple doesn’t pay foreigners to develop their software… or do they?
good news indeed to those who can afford
Are you walking around wearing a barrel and suspenders? It’s just a personal computer for god’s sake.
Hey man, the barrel is in. Also, I have apples for sale. 5 cents.
With Apple’s strong momentum on laptops, iphone, ipod, and itunes, it’s time to improve the desktop segment.
The announcement is low toned, but there is no reason for Apple to emphasize the weakest leg of their business.
I just bought a 13′ Macbook in december, and now it seems to feel old based on the updates
…. I will still stick to mines for a couple of years.
Indeed – I bought a 13″ aluminium in January and can’t see me upgrading any time soon. It just works fine.
There weren’t any updates to the 13″ MacBooks, Ashu, so you’re safe. For now.
Gorgeous products, to expensive. I’ll have to stick with HP.
Ack, are you kidding? My printer is absolute shite.
Still using my circa ‘06 PowerBook G4. Dang thing works great and won’t die… probably good for another year or so.
I just inherited my wife’s 2006 (or is 2005?) Dell laptop. After putting Windows 7 on it, it runs like a dream, too.
BTW, I did have glue some pieces together because my daughter stepped on it one day. I am sure it wouldn’t have survived if it was a MacBook
.
Windows 7 is sooo nice…. For once I think microsoft is doing something worthwhile….
But ill stick with my macbook…. dont even wanna put windows 7 in this baby…
The AppleTV needs to become the AppleDVR.
@Ashu
My refurbed MPB is now a year and a half old and still feels very up to date, especially since I put a new hard drive in – I have no urge to upgrade any time soon. Of course, there were no Macbook updates today.
This refresh has quietly made the whole Apple line ready for Snow Leopard (NVIDIA cards all round).
Finally! I’m on the lucky end of this game.
I’m buying a new iMac this weekend… so for once, I didn’t buy on the tail end of an upgrade.
can you buy one for me also and ship it to my house?
watch that, troy. Make SURE it has the latest upgrades. They’re sneaky devils down at the apple store
I’m always confused by the names Apple give their shiny things. AirPort = Router and Time Capsule = NAS, right? Are these really any better than the others available on the market or are they just whiter and more shiny?
and more expensive
they’re all the sparks and the glitter…
it’s like bling compared to other products… haha…
Ok please go check out my blog and give me reasons to buy a imac??????? I’m currently a hardcore PC user and i’m just looking for the right motivation to make the swtich over to the “Dark Side”
Exept if you want to waste a very large amount of money on products that don’t even have Blu-ray reader, no reason to switch.
A home built computer will beat the crap out of any Mac computer, if you want to spend 2000$ on something go for a i7, a HD4870, a good 4Go of RAM, a really cool 24″ (or 2 22″, even better to work), a nice Antec tower, 1To of HDD, and let’s go for 2years at the top.
So i guess everyone here agrees with Michel. I should keep my pc’s?
I don’t agree with him. If you have the skills, time and resources to build your own, then go for it. If you want a machine that works with fewer crashes, fewer virus scares and better security, at least consider a Mac. Or build a PC yourself and run Linux on it. Either way.
You’ll find that most people who hate on Apple are those that have never actually used a modern Apple machine for any length of time. I should know, that was me three years ago. Then I wised up and took a good, objective look at them.
Ryan, please get your butt off the ground and head to an Apple Store and at least try their products… Tell the sales reps to get lost, and fiddle with the products for a sufficient amount of time…
if you hate it, then stick to your pc… but im sure youll get the hang of it and like it…
but i agree with Michel…its really better to just stick to the PC… one thing i find with Apple… THEY FUCKING PURPOSELY MAKE YOUR MACBOOK NOT HAVE THIS AND THAT AND WANT YOU TO BUY EXTRA STUFFS…
I wish Macs would slow down but I have been waiting so long for dual broadcasting and it’s just in time as I think I due of an up date although I only brought my Mac book last year.
Did you see Jimmy Fallon’s new show last night?
He said Microsoft is opening its own stores. They are just like the Apple stores except when you ask the salespeople a question, they freeze!!!
ZOMGZ HE’S SUCH A JOKESTER!
hahahah. or their first turnes blue
Or they can’t spell
LOL. That’s a good one, even though I am a win fanboy.
Nice products, but still out of touch with economic realities. When they get to reasonable levels, i’ll consider one. Maybe.
ever try secondary markets for apple gear? if you’re okay with older gear, you can usually get them at a good price, especially now with the markets as is.
Expensive product, i wish they can lower the price.
It would be nice if TC linked to the Apple Store at least once, rather than posting a raft of crunchgear links. Times are tough, I guess, but still.
Great product line refresh {seesmic_video:{”url_thumbnail”:{”value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/Q9niQv8rcR_th1.jpg”}”title”:{”value”:”Great product line refresh ”}”videoUri”:{”value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/ieU1W3gDdi”}}}
apple…. so hot right now!
Slick and cool. But the price is too pricy..
I think I’ll try the new version of iMacs… they looks so good but they are very expensive here in Brazil…
Apple is bottled water. PC is tap water.
I just ordered the 24″ iMac – my first Mac… They estimate shipping date of Apr 14 and an arrival date of Apr 18 – is it normal for shipping times to be so long?
Those are some great additions but they don’t come cheap.. or necessarily at a fantastic value. With windows 7 coming they could use the updates as an insurance policy. Based on justaskgemalto it’s worth checking out the differences in digital security with these platforms.
Why do I always find myself getting pulled back into Apple’s sleek and alluring new products? I don’t need tera-byte size time capsule, because a thumb-drive costs a tenth as much and holds up to 60 gigs (and hundreds of files). Until other companies catch on to the appeal of sleek-design technology, Apple is going to keep its competitive advantage.
