I stayed in Hanalei Bay on the north shore of Kauai. Hanalei is a very small town with just a single small hotel, lots of locals and a few tourists driving through to reach some good hiking trails at the end of the road.

I’ve interviewed dozens of people about what they would do if there were no Internet. Four of them answered that they’d be surfing the waves, instead of the web. Mike, you’re probably one of them.

I myself went completely offline for a full month last December and wrote a book about it. I’m curious if you recognize the 4 phases that I went through, going cold turkey without the Internet. (no iPhone as well!)

Good to see you’re back in the fray; hope you hiked the Hanakapeai Trail while you were on the North Shore. It’s spectacular, and you seemed like you could use some exertion that didn’t bring spittle-hurling VCs out of the woodwork. Then again, since Kauai was used as the set for “Jurassic Park,” maybe one of the “spitter” dinosaurs would have popped out of the underbrush.
