in browser games are the future gameing platform (ID software, Unity etc.)

Try it before you bash it, I was online and playing in about 5 minutes (including initial download and install of their client)… I’m guessing next games will load faster because I already have the client.

@Carmel – except that Flash is already installed by the vast majority of people and noone has heard of the plaYce player yet – differentl can of worms entirely. Its very difficult to reach critical mass when you require an install.

Good point Jim,

Browser means fast and easy. If it doesnt load and start in under 10 seconds there is no reason to be in the browser. Now it just takes my browser away from me, when the game should be loading in a seperate application while I was actually USING by browser…

The plaYce plaYer is a lightweight 8MB plug-in and game data is streamed. This is similar to viewing a YouTube movie using a Flash player.

Can’t play this on my Mac, so I haven’t checked it out yet. I like the idea of playing in real places, but to me a browser based game that requires a plugin install and a 300MB download might as well not be in the browser.

It’s as if someone said, “People love the convenience of fast food, but want the quality of a fine restaurant meal. Let’s put a fine restaurant meal in a fast food container!. By the way it still takes 40 minutes for your order to arrive…”
