Over the next few weeks, you will see a new byline on TechCrunch. We are fortunate to have tech journalist and blogger Sarah Lacy filling in as a guest writer here over the next few weeks while Michael takes some much-deserved time off.
Sarah is the author of Once You’re Lucky, Twice You’re Good: The Rebirth of Silicon Valley and the Rise of Web 2.0 (available at Amazon), she is the co-host of Yahoo’s Tech Ticker with Henry Blodget, and she still writes the “Valley Girl” column for BusinessWeek, where she started out as a reporter.
As I say, we are lucky to have her. Please give her a hearty TechCrunch welcome.

Interview with MZ…
Michael, I thought you said she is done.
this reeks of fail.
she was done – until Michael wimped out
So typical you fking idiots -
Lets welcome a new person by suggesting they will fail. Seriously – go back to digg and leave some stupid fking comments on that site – but fk off here.
When you are exposed in the public eye – write books and all the rest – then maybe you can fking comment. Until then – shut the fk up.
Congrats Sarah – best of luck.

p.s. isn’t this the incompetent “blogger” who TRIED to interview zuckerberg?
you cant imagine the hazing locator dude had to put up with in his early days at TC. bunch of driveby haters. no chips and all lips. their “talk” is cheap. i have learned alot at TC and my hater crew following has only made me stronger. who cares about that MZ interview, this reunion of MA and SL reminds me of the Mahhalo TC reunion tour. many times your worst enemy can be our greatest asset and that reunion was a prime example. welcome to the TC family SL.
BloggerLocator.com – always write, never wrong
boooooooo. send her away
Ted McGinley unavailable?
Is she going to be paid in ice cream?
As I say, we are lucky to have her. Please give her a hearty TechCrunch welcome.
Nice. This should shake things up a bit.
Boooo, bring back sissy boy!!!
Yay, congrats Sarah! Looking forward to what you have to say!
I would call Sarah pretty, whereas I would only refer to Michael as cute.
But can she start a fight online???
i know i for one am excited
to see the comments after people start making comparisons to her performance at sxsw, whether or not they be valid
Welcome Sarah! Lets get things going around these parts, eh?
*grabs popcorn*
This is the sxsw fail chick right? Hahaha oh man… I foresee a lot of posts written about HOT CEOs. Best of luck to failchick!
I don’t get it why she’s faulted for the disastrous interview with the Zuck.
The Zuck sucks at interviews and can barely string an f’in sentence together, so I don’t see why Lacy should be faulted for that.
She’s faulted because she kept interrupting him when he did try to answer. No big deal, I suspect Sarah is better at summarizing interviews for print than doing live one-on-one (or maybe she’s improved by now).
Hey, I’m not sure I like the tone of these comments here. It doesn’t matter what Sarah Lacy looks like. What matters is she wrote the tech industry’s version of “Dow Average: 20,000″ — a book that was obsolete a mere six months after publication.
Congrats Sarah. Looking forward to reading your pieces.
Welcome, Sarah! Looking forward to see your work
Just read her first article. Maybe she will be better at other things.
can’t be any worse than steve gillmor. i hope.
As long as she can create coherent sentences she doesn’t have to worry about that.
Early April Fool’s joke?
this must be a joke..really…why her.
best,
lance lee
good one, techcrunch needed some good old fashion slapstick, lets see what pearls sarah brings to the table ^_^
All I care about is whether this means she’s coming back for SXSW ‘09.
It means she’s not, right?
This is kind of like wrestling…. you know, when the wrestlers bad mouth and put the hate on each other in the ring but are all buddies backstage. No surprise here. Good luck lady.
I heart Sarah Lacy {seesmic_video:{”url_thumbnail”:{”value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/z5KJTfM7tq_th1.jpg”}”title”:{”value”:”I heart Sarah Lacy ”}”videoUri”:{”value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/fYcOaAMOeS”}}}
Looking forward to your first post for TC Sarah!
I can’t wait for her to interview Mark Zuckerberg… oh wait.
I asked Sarah about that. {seesmic_video:{”url_thumbnail”:{”value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/aO2MfkAiQI_th1.jpg”}”title”:{”value”:”I asked Sarah about that. ”}”videoUri”:{”value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/iFMISOcBce”}}}
I *totally* get that sometimes things go sideways. And that it’s easy for everyone to be a critic when they haven’t done X themselves.
But for her to say “Yeah, I was DELIGHTED” just … well seems a bit strange. A bit out of touch.
In any case welcome to Sarah, it’s all water under the bridge. Good luck with the gig, knock ‘em dead and I hope you prove ‘em wrong.
Women do have it harder, especially in tech, and people commenting about her appearance is just low class. C’mon guys.
PS: Andrew, good luck with that stop button!
Sarah was a total fail at SXSW — to hear the bloggeratti blame it on Zuckerberg reveals how few have actually watched her juvenile and coquettish pseudo journalism. I can’t blame them though, it was incredibly painful.
In any case, I dig Andrew’s video comment — one of the more interesting social apps of video I’ve seen.
Worked with Sarah for the first time last week at Twiistup and have nothing but praise. Nice job TC for getting the perfect substitute teacher. With any luck you can figure out something long term for her as the boy’s club reporting could use another perspective.
Oh Sarah, how could we forget the Zuckerberg SXSW interview
http://www.crun...viewer-at-sxsw/
I agree with most here about SXSW, made me cringe more than David Brent. But i’d be a childish fool not give the poor lass another chance. Welcome aboard Sarah, I for one will look forward to your posts. Prove the nay-sayers wrong love.
Good luck Sarah.
Not cool. Think I will stay away for a while.
Woot!!! Yay. Ready to hear what you have to say on Techcrunch Sarah!
will she be flirting in her post as well liked she did when she interviewed mark zuckerberg? how can you take female journalist serious when they behaved like this .
Welcome, Sarah!
Yeah, some people might be ranting against you…but, guys, let’s give her the benefit of doubt, let’s not judge her already…
Sarah rocks. enough said – anyone bashing her doesn’t know her well enough.
Let’s hope this will give her a chance at redemption with the Tech/Web2.0 crowd.
Good Luck Sarah.
Congratulations Sarah. I’m looking forward to you bringing a new perspective on technology to Techcrunch.
Good luck Sarah. I look forward to hearing your opinions, but I hope you brought your thickest skin because it gets rough here (as the previous comments attest).
You call that rough?
welcum sa-lut
Not very exciting news. Getting her is ok but thinking that she can write quality articles like Micheal is not good.
Welcome Sarah Lacy
Writer of the worst book ever. Hopefully we’ll be able to read some ass-kissing articles of similar fashion.
Honestly — worst book ever.
Looking forward to her posts
.
I think it is a perfect fit for Techcrunch: a controversial journalist for a controversial blog.
Michael was just writing how he was sick of the phrase Web 2.0 and happy about how it’s starting to fall out of use and now he’s gone and hired a journalist who’s written a book with Web 2.0 in the title. Go figure.
Hey at least it’s not that Dow 30,000 guy.
The death of TechCrunch is now official.
hey good to have some fresh blood, and you know what ignore all these idiots that don’t respect the fact you made it and they have not.
Can’t wait to see what you can do…Ohh Michael good that you took some time off your posts were lacking in the last couple of weeks. Get well and enjoy the vacation.
Sarah Lacy is awesome. I watch her on Yahoo Finance. Glad to see she will write for this site!!!
Hurray!
Maybe it’s time for a Web 3.0 book next — how Silicon Valley is eclipsed by web entrepreneurs around the globe (like WordPress) on “Internet Valley”…of which TechCrunch might be the capital.
Well, that’s at least my self-serving prediction. As a remote remote geek who relies on Sarah to tell me how tenaciously little Max Levchin showers or sleeps…I think this can only be a good and interesting addition.
Damn – some of you guys (and gals) can be brutal.
I personally look forward to seeing what she comes up with. It never hurts to see things from a different perspective and I welcome the views of a guest blogger any day.
As for her interview with Zuckerberg – who cares. I mean really. People have off days and you shouldn’t belittle someone for one thing.
Since I am sure you are reading this Sarah:
Good luck. Show us what you’ve got.
Woohoo – welcome Sarah! Have fun with it – we support you.
Welcome aboard. Looking forward to see more amazing content on TC.
buck up Arrington, what are you a 5 year old or something?
boo?!.
And, noooo, her interview with Zuckerberg was horrible. She’s lost all credibility, along with TC.
This Sarah chick isn’t as hot as Sarah Austin from pop17.com
What a clown.
Its not like Sarah is going to pole dance. We are looking forward to what she writes about and how.
WELCOME SARAH…I am a bit late but still…welcome!
