To be or not be . ...that's the question.

The good thing is that as long as we get the information about the danger of using facebook. then you can choose wether to use it or not.
Parents shouldn't allow children to use internet unless they are monitored.
Heroin is bad, we all know. It's in the street and everyone has access to it. The good thing is that you're not force to use it if you don't want to.

I feel that all the cases written about in this article involving predators on Facebook sprang from parents not having a clue as to what their kids were up to.

I know it sounds simple minded but hear me out.

The problem seems to spring from parents not instilling critical thinking skills in their children from day one!
All the accounts in this article seem to point to a climate of lassaiz-faire on the part of the parents, and a climate of unrestrained hedonism on the part of the children.

Children who aren't raised with a critical or , dare I say it, a jaundiced eye about the world they live in become sure victims.

Are we so naive as to believe that one day tens of thousands of predators just showed up at Facebook?

Do we believe that all we have to do is ASK children to send nude pictures of themselves to us and they will all comply? Or that all we have to do is ask kids for money and they will give it to us? The kids who get caught up in phishing expeditions and nekkid photo exchanges are surely the children of parents who believe that it can't happen to them.

More to the point, do we really believe that the internet is a safe place at all for our families?

Brothers and sisters, if you believe there is any safe place for children in this sick sick world, then your children believe it too.

My 7 year old stands a better chance than yours of surviving open season on kids.

I met up with an old Friend Danny on facebook who turned out to be a real jerk He cheats on his wife Christine he asked me to cheat with him, when i said no he was fine AT FIRST BUT said hed break me down & began to try verry hard BUT I held my ground b/c i am true to my husband BUT he then became nasty, when he didnt get his way. HE began to cyber stalk me. He watched me online. I never knew how so I began to set up "traps" I created fake facebook profiles, I couldnt find how he was watching me, I lured him with a friend's famous friend connection that wasnt enough to find him watching me. WHAT made him come out of hiding was when I told him I said HI to his old girlfriend Kathy who he hates! THAT pissed him off! With the help of the police and a tech dude, I created ONE last fake profile and they found him and how he was able to see me!
FACEBOOK is NOT SAFE! If this criminal was able to find a way to cyber stalk me then an EDUCATED REAL HACKER can do real damage to anyone! BE AWARE and watch your backs! FACEBOOK has yet to block my stalkers & YET to address my concerns! THEY have NOT helped me! MY ATTORNEY sees things FAR DIFFERNTLY and WILL hold FACEBOOK accountable if this ESCALATES any further than it already has!

Anyone who uses Facebook and thinks it is a safe haven is very naive. Most people post that I know don't put up questionable videos/photos etc, although some people do. I think giving up as much information your willing to let anyone in the world know about you is the best way to a "safe" person facebook.

Definitely it is not safe (or even discrete) to put your photos, and your friend's photos drunken, to label them, your hobbies, mail, phone.

Many companies have commented on the problems of security of social networks on the internet...

The Myspace reviewing all uploaded content bit has perplexed me - aren't they concerned about losing their DMCA copyright infringement safe harbor? Right and ability to control, anyone?

Not all consumers of social networking sites such as FaceBook are completely at a loss as to the fact that they are not safe havens. There is a channel on YouTube where a bunch of college kids have a vlog, their most recent post was on how 'scary' chat rooms can be. Go about half way through the video to see the comments on this recognition among young people about the 'safeness' of social media. It's funny too. http://www.youtube.com/thecollegevlogproj

Protect children from pedophiles = great idea.

However, while it is true that all pedophiles are sex offenders, not all sex offenders are pedophiles. Most are just people trying to live their lives.

Megan's Law (and it's various State-by-State variants) are a wonderful idea - protect children from pedophiles. However, the original intent behind the law has become perverted in its implementation, so that the 18-year-old who has sex with his 17-year-old girlfriend becomes branded a sex offender, is tracked by law-enforcement for *LIFE*, and is hounded and harassed by well-intentioned people trying to protect children from pedophiles. All because of the mistaken belief that all sex offenders are pedophiles.
