I too feel that this is a horrible thing. I utilize youtube to help teach college and elementary students american sign language and I incorporate music into this. By them refusing to allow the videos to remain on the site it goes against the fair use act (not for profit, educational) and it makes youtube not ADA compliant. If I was youtube I would be concerned about some of the deaf banding together and lashing out at both youtube and WMG the same way that they are at Netflix.

Its about time the Music Industry got off their proverbial butts, and put a stop to this theft.
The fact that You Tube, and individuals have been illegally using their materials and branding them with their logos…is nothing short of criminal.
The artists are the ones who suffer the greatest financial loss by this form of theft.
Copyrights are there for a reason, take a look at the bottom of this page (© 2009 TechCrunch).
Do you think they would mind if you just copied all of their site, and then used to sell your crappy little products. The bottom line is every person who has done so, are nothing short of common criminals.
Tech Crunch is nothing more than a hypocritical company, who seeks to point the finger at others, while they themselves use the copyright to protect themselves.
If they try to say they do not, then copy this website and put your name on it, and advertise your products. They will have your butts in court faster than you can say “Ah” with your mouth open.
Fair is Fair, and Theft is Theft. Pay the 99 cents, and stop ripping off the Artist’s.
As for You Tube, they should, and probably will be sued out of existence.

Don’t give me that struggling artist BS, they hardly get shit for CD sales. They make most of their money on concerts, shirts, etc.

Which is promoted when their music shows up on youtube, people learn they exist, learn their music is good and go out and buy their CD’s, go to their concerts, etc.

I don’t think filesharing sites or downloading music has anything to do with this. This isn’t about how these people got the music into their library, it’s about them uploading it to YouTube and violating a copyright law. You shouldn’t assume they didn’t pay for the songs. That isn’t relevant to the current issue.

But that’s just the point, it’s NOT stealing. It’s just like television. People want to see a music video, they can turn on the tv or they can turn on youtube and be able to view it. They don’t OWN it. It’s just available for VIEW on the internet.
If artists were true artists, they wouldn’t care how fans of their music came upon the content. They’d just want them to have the music. And anyone who cared about the artists and music, would pay for the content if they could afford it. Some people can’t afford to spend their money on music, they have families to support or expenses or debt. If I were an artist, I’d still want them to have the joy of hearing my music.
Youtube is great promotion for any kind of media, and it makes people more likely to go out and buy stuff.

I paid for the stupid song when I purchased the CD or the download from Apple, how many times do I have to pay for something so I can use as I please???? Do you want to get in my car with me every day and charge me for each time that I play the CD or my IPOD? If you don’t think you are getting paid enough why don’t you go after the big guys who are stealing all of our money…
I have a sweet Youtube video that I made of my husband and his dog and had an old song attached to it, I wasn’t hurting or stealing from anyone, the music just gave the slideshow more meaning. Shame on people like you that want to take the gift and pleasure of music away from people just because of YOUR greed!

Copyright exists for a purpose. So you have rights over any commercial use of your creative content, otherwise you writing, recording, making movies or what not for nothing. People here have the attitude that because technology has made getting things for free, being free should be their right. Well now technology enables copyright enforcement. Should artists not get paid for your download or viewing?

TV isn’t free, you pay in wasted time watching commercials. Cable isn’t free. And no matter how you slice it file sharing sites are a form of theft. Justify it all you want, deep down you know you’re stealing.

There’s no good argument YouTube or you should be able to get someone else’s copywritten material material streamed to your screen for free if the copyright owner doesn’t want to give it away.

Wait till you have to try and sell music of your own.

I take it none of you create content for a living. You write a song, it plays on radio, you get paid. I plays 60 million times on youtube and you don’t get a cent. What’s the point of writing another song. It’s like if I were a novelist and I find my books ready for a free download.

Stop being cheap. If you or someone doesn’t pay for content they’re won’t be any for you to enjoy. The free lunch is over.

it’s really dis appointing to see that what you have done in hours/or uploaded a year ago or more can be muted or blocked the next time you sign in..why can’t YT & WMG agreed onto something that the public & youtube viewers won’t be at the disadvantage.we are not just viewers here we are also the ones who buy your artist’s albums as well as the ones attending the concert events too..isn’t what were doing is also a free promo for your talents by doing those music video tributes etc?…
