What? Facebook will not drop into irrelevancy any time soon. My friends and I use facebook as a part of life itself, which some may say is bad, but it really isn't. My entire high school does. Plus, with 300+ million users, thats not gonna just go away in a year. Facebook is too convienent for that.

I really liked your posting about this, and I've seen a few more like it recently - the best part about yours is, it's very informative and useful and full of good information without a bunch of usless rants and BS!

I'll be sure to give this URL to some friends

Thanks Again

I know this is an old article, but I can't help but feel I should put my two cents in:

As a musician, myspace has become a NECESSITY. Name a band, they probably have a myspace. It's just one of the most essential things you can have. It has a clean, customizable design, and you can put your music up for free- as many as 10 songs now, I think. This, coupled with the fact that you can post your tour schedule and keep connected with friends, is huge. Facebook, Last.fm, and other sites are also useful, but they're not a necessity like myspace is.

That said, I should note that I almost never use my personal profile anymore- just my music one. When it comes to socializing, I turn to facebook.

Please. FaceBook is certainly NO BUSINESS TOOL. In fact, they have so many rules and regulations about how users can communicate there and what they can do, it is awfully hard to do much. MySpace is one of the best business tools around. It is effective for bringing in new business through actual communication mechanisms. I love MySpace. It's not all about ads. MySpace wins hands down.

Well I am a communications and business major and im actually in a media management 400 class right now studying this subject. In fact trying to get ahold of any media kits for the two are incredibly hard because of the new technology for both. There are not enough research or results to compute futuristic numbers. I mean we can all guess but who knows what each site or which site will come up with something more user engaging. Right now although more users are on facebook we must take the dynamics into consideration. Whats newer is hotter and everyone knew about myspace before facebook even if it was a short period of time. Myspace is now gauging people 35 and up for more of half of there site visitors. We must take into consideration also that facebook is more of a professional social networking site while myspace is famous for music and being "A place for friends" lol. I know i only joined facebook to get in touch with teachers and students from my university. Myspace is more engaging visually and entertaining overall. Soon ratings will change because the way we read the ratings will change. More detailed and aimed marketing tools will help to calculate which type of people, how many people, when where and why they are visiting specific websites. The numbers can lie ..... Myspace wins in my book for now but facebook will get its props as well....the end
