I agree, Mike. And at least Mr Carr doesn’t show the same level of vitriol for this site. MA was referenced respectfully in today’s Times column about paying for news content.

Yeah, like Frank says:

“i’ve seen just as embarrassing and worse on many techblogs, this one included. computer nerds shouldn’t throw stones at other nerds’ glass houses.”

Tech vloggers paved the way for this including many other videos posted on this very blog. You should blame yourself first.

This actually isn’t that bad but they made the mistake of identifying the columnist. That brings on way too much baggage and far too many expectations that break with David Carr’s brand, at least what I’ve previously encountered of that brand.

So basically they’ve blown the introduction of something that could actually work.

Especially if they add subtitles.

Wow. I’m always on about how institutions and companies need to get out of the way and let their employees put a human face on their interactions with others on the web.

If this is the result, I have to rethink a lot of that core philosophy.

I’ll agree that this video is awful, but your personal hatred of the NYT is not worthy of posts on TC. First, online video is supposed to be all about trying new things and not being afraid to fail. You ignore that Carr has been doing video longer than most mainstreamers as well as most WEB2.0 video “stars”. He’s done a lot of good stuff. He’s also a veteran of Inside.com which flamed out in true dot-com bubble fashion, which should win him some respect, right?

Seriously… that video was, well, a nothing. But the race to replace “brick and mortar” journalism with blogs that can be shut down simply by swapping out a DNS entry is troubling to me.
