The Crunchies ceremony and party in San Francisco is just four days away. Who’s going to win best startup of 2008? It’s up to you. Just make sure you vote by Wednesday (we’ve extended the voting deadline by two days).
We’ve got an awesome evening planned. The ceremony kicks off at 7:30 pm, Friday, January 9 at the historic Herbst Theater in San Francisco. Awards will be given out to the winners (yep, those gorilla statues – here’s the back story).
Among other surprises at the event, you’ll see the famous Richter Scales make a return performance. We’ve commissioned them to write a special song just for the Crunchies.
Right after the main event is a big party at City Halls Rotunda, from 9 – midnight. MySpace will be showing up with a fancy DJ, and drinks will be flowing.
Tickets are available here until they are sold out. See you there!

Perhaps the TC crew will do Crunchies in NYC one year soon.
We will place our bid in starting next Crunchies.
Good luck to all the nominees
Mike,
You gotta do something about the TC homepage. It’s starting to look like Times Square…way too much clutter and bling and less and less room for the content.
It’s getting to the point that I dread visiting the homepage. Make a resolution for 2009 to lose some of the page weight and the excess clutter. Thin is in baby!
we’re working on it…
And please, please, please lose the ads that play unprompted audio. It doesn’t get more obnoxious then reading a news story when “Congratulations, you’ve won a new mac mini” blares from your speakers.
actually i like the new black toolbar-looking thingie at the top with the tabs.
also like concept behind larger featured story blocks, except they look a little too much like your sponsor ads (and also, a little too much like Gawker network / old Valleywag?). perhaps some different UI treatment to differentiate between story & ad.
(agreed there’s a lot going on, but TC has a lot going on.)
It is actually quite surprising to me, that a site and founder that genuinely prides itself (rightfully so, IMO) on “journalism” first, now has a homepage that has prioritized that very core-value under graphic ads. In either visual, grid, or real estate; journalistic content all are subordinate to the brand-advertisement.
I know you pride yourself, profession, and business on true ‘reporting’, Mr. Arrington, so I hope you take these comments as truly constructive feedback. Professionally (as it is my job advising on matters of this *very* nature), it is my opinion, that the site has lost the voice of that core value set upon load and experience.
Myself, I do not even visit the website any longer directly in the browser. Instead; relying on RSS and Twitter links to review the content generated from TechCrunch.
Have a great day, and best of luck with the upcoming year.
Nice. Gotta be there.
This is great. See you guys there !!

My vote goes to Cap’n Crunch! its about time he got promoted to Admiral!
For a second, I thought I was on the site Gawker.

Who’s the fancy Myspace DJ? I’m genuinely, madly interested in who it is. Please reply to twitter.com/freshbreakfast if anyone knows!
for those who cant make it there, we can create or join a crunchie’s chat group at http://groups.im/ =) it’s a easy to use live group chat with your instant messenger
You shouldn’t have had this on a week day. Nobody can drive up there from LA and still make it to work.
Actually looks/sounds like a great time. Much as I hate to admit wanting to be part of any “in” club, I wish I could be there. The personality will be a-flowin’, looks like.
wow, all the tech people look young and the tech girls look hot!!!
i wish i can go. (:
when i tried to buy ticket, i am getting following error message, is ticketing down or event sold out?
This webpage is not available.
The webpage at http://www.amia...hiesawards.html might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
@stev: should work? server’s up and running
I hope Mogulus (or any other streaming service for all I care) is going to stream the event live, just like last year.
Nice photo link to this article on your front page. Very dignified. Although, I probably wouldn’t have clicked had it not been for the hot girl factor. Let’s face it, we click on hot girls 90% more often. Studies show.
Wow. Last time I hit the front page is was still sane. This is, well, impressive, but dang. I’ll just stick with Google Reader. Much less noise to content ratio.
