The Google voice search iPhone app is very much among the most important stories of the year. While it hasn't had huge impact perhaps yet in the U.S., it works. That's an amazing statement about any speaker-independent voice recognition with an unlimited vocabulary. Before you dismiss it, consider the huge numbers of people on the planet who are illiterate. A voice-driven interface for useful computing, of which this is a powerful early indicator, could have huge economic implications by bringing many hundreds of millions of people into the communications infrastructure and thus more closely integrate them into their regional economies.
