Check out these fun Easter Eggs that appear on the side of Google search results for terms like Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa Gifts, Christmas Sweaters, Hanukkah Sweaters, etc.
Sure draws the eyes to those ads. I wonder what those images do for the click rates. But I’m sure it’s all just good holiday cheer. More here and here.

I’m for anything that improves Adsense revenue.
What do you give someone for Kwanza???
Isn’t it against adsense TOS to use images next to adsense ads?
This wouldn’t actually show on adsense, just on search results on google itself.
So google is doing something it normally bans its publishers from doing?
We can’t all start throwing eye-grabbing icons next to our adsense ads now, can we?
Ok on the results

please stop spamming.
A bit tacky, no?
its festive!
…and profitable.
I think they should make the images blink. that would be even more festive.
HAH
The bastion of all human knowledge, now with neon!
Too funny. What’s next? A looping midi file in the background that plays “Here Comes Santa Claus”
I wouldn’t be surprised if they increased CTR by an order of magnitude.
As an adwords advertiser who doesn’t run any campaigns with a festive theme, I’m jealous
As an advertiser I wouldn’t be against google matching keywords to an icon bank like this even for non-festive, stuff. As a search user, I don’t know… might get too cutesy and annoying at other times of the year when we’re all supposed to be miserable.

Revenues are revenues no matter their source… great find! Never even knew Google did this sort of stuff.

From all that’s been done of late by Google to boost income, I’d be very scared for the quarterly numbers if I was a Google shareholder. If not this quarter, then next quarter when they can’t sustain this quarters growth.
Nice…

I agree the ads definitely catch the eyes and get clicks.
really a bit tacky for European eyes. Maybe thats why they don’t have it over here.
Here in the UK, I couldnt find any christmas leaves on google for any of the keywords. seems to be limited to the US…
Encouraging me to start using Twitter.
I have only one comment about the topic that you raised here, and it is really directed to Google. I am an open guy that respects each and every religion, thoughts, opinions and I have been taught to respect the other whatever the situation is. However, I really do not understand the acts of many US corporations when dealing with Muslims and Muslim societies. I can understand that Google has these Easter Eggs for search results for terms like Christmas. Then I can respect that they do so also for Hanukkah of Jewish. But, why these corporations are intending to neglect Islam and Muslims. At least they are many ads that appear when searching for Islamic gifts, etc. Noticing that the number of Muslim population in US is about 6-10 Millions, and total Muslim Population is 1.84 billion in year 2007 allover the world. Check Wikipedia.
Happy new year and Xmas days for all.
Same old religion/race/language sh*t. Nobody is ignoring the Muslims. By your yardstick Google is ignoring Buddhists,Hindus,Jains,Sikhs,Wikka,Red Necks,Neo Nazis,Taliban,Islamic Terrorist….
Stop complaining and cribbing about everything. It’s all about market economics. Capitalism only sees money and the colour of money, it doesn’t care a shit about anything else.
I will never go for a fight with you, it is your view point and I do respect it. You said “Islamic Terrorist” and I say “US Terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan” so we are in the same pool according to you.
I think we have to keep an objective conversation, and when I stated the number of Muslim population in US I intended to make it clear that these people can be targeted by Ads as well as others. So, calm down and make sure that in todays life business has to decide, do you know why US is keeping finnnne relationships with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia becuase of Gas, Oil etc…
Read the history then come back and argue. I am ready for any peaceful, objective and realistic conversation. Again Happy New Year and M. Xmas
Calm down Ahmad – it’s an ad. Just as they have the freedom to run their platform the way they want, you have the freedom to use Yahoo, Live, or any other SE out there if you so choose.
On my site I typically put “count down” timers to times of year that people like to go out and catch some great entertainment: Holiday shows, pre-Thanksgiving shows, New Years gigs, etc. I do what is best for the “greater majority” of my site’s visitors. I can’t possibly account for every single person’s desire – not possible Ahmad.
Oh, and save your “US Terrorism” argument for another blog. He was simply mentioning groups of individuals that aren’t being catered to.
Just getting us in the holiday mood and of course advertising.

It isn’t against Adsense TOS to put images next to your adblocks – as long as they are separated enough and no images like arrows pointing at the ads are used.
I asked them this a while back and tha the response in short that I got.
Nothing new, they started doing this 3 years ago…

More interesting are ads now appearing on the first page of many image searches, finance, suggest, maps, news, and elesewhere…
It’s kind of sad to have an easter egg that doesn’t show up because I have AdBlock Plus. Oh well.
No fruitcake?
Here’s another overlooked easter egg:
Try searching for festivus

They’ve also got different images up on searches for ‘dreidel’ and ’snowman’:
