This is a loss for Google. Brian O’Shaughnessy, one of the good guys of PR, is leaving Google to run communications for eBay-owned Skype. His last day at Google will be this week.
O’Shaughnessy oversaw communications for all of Google’s user-focused products, including YouTube, Search (Google Chrome), Apps (OpenSocial), Geo (Google Earth), and Mobile (Android).
This is the second high profile PR loss for Google this year. In May Elliot Schrage, Google’s vice president of global communications and public affairs, left the company to join Facebook.
O’Shaughnessy will be moving to Luxembourg for his new position at Skype. Lucky him.

One thing I am not understanding. Why google is not integrating Google Video into YouTube…? What is the purpose. The speech discourse of this guy is not clear enough.

What a loss for Google. The new head of PR there is evil and forced Elliott Schrage out. Brian was a pro that Google needed. What a loss for Google.
Anyone else think Skype is planning for a sale or to decouple from eBay? They’ve brought in a lot of heavy management in the past few weeks from the outside.
eBay Inc. cannot afford to sell Skype, and who would be the buyer anyway? Skype and PayPal (and Kijiji I believe) are thriving, while the core business continues to decline.
Scaling up the executive weight/talent is fundamental. Skype operates in an almost separate capacity from eBay Inc., unlike other branches of the business, such as PayPal.
Skype has worldwide penetration and traction, it’s a great business, so it’s great to see Brian setting up shop there.
I taught Brian everything he knows.

Brian is a rock star and skype is lucky to get him. Big loss for Google. The stock should drop another $100 with this departure.
Good luck to him. Skype seems increasingly buggy. Their London HQ seems a very unhappy place. I have yet to meet a staff member who is.
