A big part of being a sports fan is keeping score. And now there is a great way to keep up with scores and stats for every basketball and football team in the U.S. (NBA, NFL, and college teams). It’s called StatTweets, and it just launched today. You can follow any team you like from @KnicksStats to @UNCStats, and you’ll get spreads, final points, standings, ranks, and more. Here is the full list of teams.
There are other sports-related Twitter services, such as SportsTwit, but those tend to be updates from other fans. StatTweets lets you zero in on the teams you care about.
The data for StatTweets comes from StatSheet. So when you click on StatTWeet from the Knicks, it takes you to the Knicks page on StatSheet. Both were developed by Robbie Allen ad are part of his newly announced StatSheet Network, which also includes StatFix (an embeddable stat of the day widget for any college basketball team).
Hardcore sports fans are going to want to check out StatSheet. For a one-man startup with no funding, this is really impressive. The site is all about sports stats. They are front and center in a big, readable font. You can slice and dice them anyway you want. There are stats on how each player impacts his team, and even on referees.
But my favorite part is the charts. Here’s an animated one called Rankings in Motion that shows how the college basketball standings changed over the season. Best of all, you can build your own with any of the data on the site and then embed it as a widget on your blog or fan site.

How about some sports the rest of the world is interested in?
@Paddy – I know right! I can’t believe a 1 man startup with no funding would dare launch a service without including every sports team in existence.
This startup personally offends me.
(/sarcasm)
stfu and get laid you pos
the guy picked 4 sports, all US centric when just one sport that would appeal to a much greater audience such as football (soccer) would have made the service more appealing overall
well they could diversify a bit, but I think they’re going for a very particular North American market.
Although cricket seems to be huge in non-US/Canada/South America parts of the world
Is TechCrunch in bed or just in love with Twitter? I feel like every article lately has some type of twitter slant on it. Are there no other companies out there doing work?
Techcrunch is a sponsored by the Federated Media Ad Network. The premise of Federated Media is to turn ‘advertising into conversation.”
So, if techcrunch, sillicon alley insider, venturebeat posts ’stories’ about twitter they are in essence advertising for twitter. I’m pretty sure there’s a monthly quota for stories/advertising of twitter.
Welcome to the banal world of advertising as conversation.
Thanks You http://www.jugargame.com/
its not TC fault that many companies are integrating Twitter. They are just reporting the story.
Sweet, I’m always looking for that kind of content delivery on Twitter since I’m on it so much.
If you’re interested in getting league-wide final scores, you can follow @nba_scores. There’s also @nflscorebot and @mlb_scores if you’re more into those sports.
So they’re trying to legitimize twitterbotting?
StatTweets is really very cool~
On a semi-related note – I’ve been getting a real kick out of the iPhone App “Twootball” on Sundays. It was free on Black Friday. I really enjoy seeing what people are tweeting about in regards to the game I’m watching.
I’d rather get free fantasy football/basketball/baseball stats. Team stats don’t seem that interesting to get in real time.
This is great. Wish I was one of the techcrunch writers getting paid to write about every new small thing going on with twitter.
enough of twitter. It is overated.
Should we have bets on how many more twitter related stories we will have before 25th Dec ?
I bet atleast 3 more twitter related stories.
Stats are always good, but why is Knicks being shown on that screenshot? Does anyone really follow the Knicks nowadays on any site?
I am a huge Cal Bears Fan… I am going to give this a go…
Add baseball, and I’m in.
http://www.ingamenow.com launched a few months ago as twitter for sports and has live scores and interaction for the NBA, MLB, NFL, NCAA BBall, NCAA Football and other sports.
InGameNow is also available in iPhone Apps and via gtalk, aim, email, etc.
Dude, yeah, the iPhone apps are how I keep up with the NFL games on Sundays when my wife won’t let me sit in front of the TV all day – it is sweet!
Found an NFL prospect on twitter. Pretty cool stuff about getting ready for the combine and such.

I’m a sports fanatic so StatTweets is a must. Thanks for the heads up on this one.
I’ve been using the http://www.ingamenow.com website for months and it is great. If you have time at work or while watching the game, you can banter and discuss your favorite teams or sports with other fans – productivity be damned!
These are needed services. I’m in favor of whatever can tell me whats going on at any game I cant attend. Only stat I need is the score, then I’m interested in news.
Using Twitter for updating and getting sports information is really interesting to me because I am using it to beat other websites to announce results, fixtures and other stats.
I am based in Malawi in Central Africa and I am also running a one-man sport stats web app powered by Twitter. Check it out at soyapi.com/owinna
Unlike StatTweets, Owinna is mostly about soccer from Malawi for now. Check it out!
This sound like a great idea
A problem with several accounts sending messages on related topics is that words like “Game Update” will become a trending topic on Twitter Search. I saw that earlier today.
I wonder if there is a way to remove those words from trending. @SocialJulio
Being a a huge sportsfan but not always around to watch my teams play, sounds like a great way to keep in touch with how my team and players are doing. Will be a great resource for those involved in fantasy leagues.
Well I like the idea! It is going to be a huge help for me and my sports blog. And I think its really impressive how much one person has accomplished on one site! Great concept and I’m very excited to start using it after the new year
Thanks for writing this Erick. Have some clothing business idea around this and will make valuable use of the links you posted.
sounds pretty cool; was this made by the designers of twitter?
