Omniture is extending its SiteCatalyst measurement tool to native iPhone applications, enabling developers and marketers to gain insight on how users are interacting with their iPhone apps, based on real-time information. This should allow them not only to improve the user experience based on analytics, but also make adjustement necessary to generate more revenue by enhancing ad clicks, purchasing and increasing page views.
The new offer, which is basically an extension of its existing SiteCatalyst solution, is called App Measurement for iPhone and will be generally available as from January 2009. To our knowledge this is the first analytics program specifically designed for native iPhone applications, but it’s safe to say other providers will soon follow suit with similar offerings.
Update: that’s why we love commenters. Venture-backed Pinch Media also offers an analytics suite for iPhone developers.
Update 2: similar service providers include Medialets, Mobilytics, AppLoop and Mobclix.

In related news, Tel Aviv-based Kenshoo is taking its Search Engine Marketing campaign management solution mobile, enabling users to consult campaign statistics and reports from their iPhone browser. More information about their solution is available here, and a video demo can be viewed here.

Cool !!
From my understanding Pinch Media seems to be in the exact same space.
Yes, Pinch Media has a similar product. I can’t tell you how it compares to Omniture’s version, because I haven’t seen it yet — but I can tell you it’s both free and available now.
Correct, post updated. thanks!
Something we techies have been waiting for specifically for iPhone since its market coverage is growing so fast.

if only they weren’t so friggn expensive. Google Analytics is just as good and doesn’t cost $142k for a 36mo contract for their base product.
Are realtime stats really worth that? I can wait 24hrs…
easier for SEM guys to watch.
Actually I’m just checking out facebook connect… sorry no cool information with this comment
There are a couple of companies out there that offer iphone analytics. Medialets has been around since before the iphone launch, and has produced some really interesting analytics around the iphone and android.
Of course, having a powerhouse like Omniture enter the space will really make it interesting…
Thanks, Micah.
We do provide free, in app analytics for hundreds of iPhone and Android developers.
Omniture’s breadth of service will be good for large publishers looking to link analytics across all of their properties, and is a great compliment to our ad platform.
Mobclix has a nice analytics tool as well.
The great thing about using App Measure over pinch media/admob/medialets is that you can use the data on your existing omniture setup, which has hundred of different types of reports with different metrics you can track. The other providers dont really have many metrics except app opens, app runs, etc…
It would be great to see a side-by-side comparison of these 5 or 6 services.
If anyone knows of links to comparisons, please post them in the comments.
Here’s one comparison matrix:

It’s not 100% complete but serves as a good starting point.

Flurry Analytics also provides real-time analytics for iPhone, as well as Android, Blackberry and Java ME. It’s easy to integrate, allows developers to track custom events and goals, and compare versions of an application within a platform or across all platforms we support.

Does this affect the performance of the apps when the user is not on a network (WiFi or 3G)?
Does the reporting rely on a connection at that moment or does it collect information when offline and report when a connection becomes available?
Do any of these iPhone analytics companies provide reat-time call tracking? It would be great to track impression of ad all the way to phone call to the advertiser (and include call stats such as when the call was made and call duration.)
Only corporate clients can afford Omniture, it’s probably the most expensive SaaS product in the entire world. A lot of iPhone apps are made by small teams, so I don’t see why Omniture is even doing this. Oh wait, that’s right, it’s iPhone related and it’s a big company so of course TC will right about it!
I think what’s interesting about this post is that we seem to be intermixing a couple of separate but related ideas.
1. I recently downloaded an iPhone app which lets me view Omniture reports, data and analytics on my iPhone.
2. I believe Omniture recently added a number of reports into their suite that sheds some light on mobile web usage.
3. Lastly, based on this post, it looks as if Omniture released some type of modular codebase and platform offering allowing iPhone developers the ability to embed analytics points into the interaction with the software. This is similar to how we’ve been seeing a focus on embedding analytics into AJAX apps as it’s not as simple as page-based interactions.
Hopefully I am making sense here. Was trying to parse out numerous concepts from this string.
Anyways, Cheers!

Damn, at first i thought this was bringing Omniture to the iPhone in order to check up on web stats. Kind of surprised that they are just now adding visibility to the iPhone – GA has done it for awhile.
this is great news for all developers, SEM’s and even SEO’s in charge of some marketing, LPO and design analysis =D
@AppBeacon: The performance of the app is not affected when the user is not on a network. We currently do not collect (and then send later) data when the iPhone is offline. In any instance, the user of the app would not experience any performance impact with this data collection.
@Sean Wani: We are not aware of Apple or the iPhone device providing developers access to the phone’s call logs. However, if a link (in a web-page or native app) had a phone number on it, you could measure the clicks of these links before the iPhone switched to the phone application and made the phone call.
@William Smith: There already is a SiteCatalyst iPhone app that you can download from the iTunes app store for free. This allows you to access SiteCatalyst reports from your iPhone.
