They had this for a while now.. When I was buying TV's in September I used this feature heavily.. I think they're just making it more widespread than just returning results on specific product names. Makes since for Christmas, in my opinion. Let's not bitch until after the holidays, to see if it sticks around or not.

Perhaps a smart for google but its going to kill all the small advertiser. Imagine, if you're small shop selling rugs. How are you compete with big retailer whos results shop up on top? Basically, they are putting consumers money directly in their pocket instead advertiser's money.

This isn't anything new. If you search for Manufacturer +Part # you get some product search results and have for a long time now. I know this because I work in e-commerce and do it almost every day.

I believe that this is part of a program called AdWords PlusBox.

@gaming - It shows a collapsed link that you must click to see products, it doesn't clutter much.

Google is desperate for new revenue models. They just introduced the autocomplete text ads, which really sucks! http://www.azurejournal.com/2008/12/new-google-suggest-ads-very-intrusive/

I think is time for a new search engine without so much crap.

That blows for my user experience.....I want to see search results....not products shoved in my face. I thought that was their #1 goal....user experience, not the bottom line? Hmmm....wishful thinking.

Not just the economy but this can be a old plan by google to integrate. Now google would be extra $ in their accounts.

The economy has taken its toll on Google too - so this Xmas season offers an opportunity to get more income to help with this quarters results.

They must have really considered the ethics of this to wait until just a couple of weeks before Xmas - but the bottom line is this will help them overall and bring needed ROI
