[...] Experience: As most of the participants at this conference, I was pretty surprised by the some problems in organizational issues. So to confirm some of the typical questions about this issues: yes the first day was frizzing cold, yes I lost 1 kilo during this conference not due to sport but what we could eat (or should I say not…) there and yes we got a very poor internet connection (thanks to swisscom…).
Interesting observation.

From your post I feel you would also say: if 100 people told you that your an alcoholic and you were in the drunk tank for the 10th time that you were just a social drinker.

You may want to post your response to a denial of reality thread that you can create.

I'm entering a quite complex debate here... with two basic facts:

1. WIFI is a must for any conference today (as well as easily accessible power for laptops)
2. I have not been to a conference in 2008 q4 where it was ok

More:
3. there should be a well promoted hashtag systems for common tools like twitter, flickr, etc... so that contribution at the event is somehow aggregated and shared (best way of connecting to people...)
4. There should be a clear social (i mean in the web 2.0 meaning of the term) plan defined well in advance and managed through a skilled community manager (oreilly knows how-to-do-it)

I think they should all learn how to manage it properly soon or they will be at the center of all jokes...

Last year I was presenting at Le Web 3 start-up competition.
I sat in the front row, prepared all the windows in the browser and was ready to go. Instead, when I made 2 steps from the hall to the scene, internet connection disappeared. And since arrogant dudes pushing the time didn't care, I had to go through slides waiting for 5 out of 8 minutes while waiting for my notebook to get back online, reconnect to the server and restore all the sessions in progress (multi-windowed webos-like Flash interface).

I lost.

Fuck you.

Robert
You say the Lift conference always seemed to be good... Who do you think provided the internet @Lift conference? Swisscom... and they are also sponsors of the event. Failures happen. Swisscom did a bad (well... horrible) job at leweb, but a good one in many other conferences... Just like RainMan doesn't fly with any airlines because they all had accidents, if we are to rule out all internet providers who ever failed an event, we'd stay without connection...

So anybody from Swisscom, Cablecom, Sunrise, Orange in there to tell what to do.

Where is the problem? The wifi or the connection with the operator.
Such a thread in Slashdot would get answers instead of bad words.

@ michael,

could you stop talking about `european` when you refer to your French experience.

French people are know for their lousy organisation skills, time keeping and long lunches.

plus being offended easily when you comment their actions, like you have already experienced.

you are always welcome in Amsterdam, but no business class tickets :-)
