The video above shows twenty two minutes of my and Loic Le Meur’s half hour interview with Google’s Vice President of Search Product and User Experience Marissa Mayer at the Le Web conference in Paris on Wednesday afternoon. A spotty Internet connection led to some problems with the Ustream stream, but they were able to save most of the footage.
Mayer announced that their Chrome browser would shortly be leaving beta and that Google Search Wiki would soon have a toggle button to allow people to turn it off. She also gave some very simple employee hiring advice.

Is it just me or is anyone else sick of hearing about Marissa Mayer?
She may be God’s gift to Tech, but I’m just not feeling it…YMMV
Eh , if you are sick and tired : Why don’t you ignore stuffs related to her ? :/
Not sick & tired bro…just wished I had my click back
Anyways…off to a car forum!
No, he’s right, she’s an idiot. I’d love to hear her explain map reduce. Mike should have handed her a doily for her glass of water.
Sergey and Larry must die laughing sending her to talk to Arrington and people like Loic. It must make them truly feel all powerful.
Look, Marissa is a good looking b that made it big. Credits for that. The best career path always goes straight thru the bedroom.
it is not complete intervhiew. please change the title to “almost” compete interview.
Great interview. Shame the QA got cut off.
@cl8ton stop drinking the h8trade, ditto @Rahul’s comment
Cheers.

Let’s get the dumbest person at the company and have THEM do PR!!!
I love Google.
12:45 what is the future of search? MM says
competition is healthy? : OKay, seeing is believing.
speech to search? : already here.
personalization: bingo
MM does not know what big signals of personalized search will be? :common sense if you ask me. “location, location, location.”
great questions Mike. Local and Geo appears to be the future of the internet. probably the biggest opportunity of 2009.
Summary of interview:
Location and Personalization will revolutionize the future of the internet. applying those principles i have been able to create potentially the greatest strategic natural language location engine platform ever. thanks for the positive reinforcement.
MyLocator.com - find yourself
the vid cut off at the portion i wanted to watch q & a
soon? very soon? I’m with you mike, I just want a toggle!

Jason Calacanis[41min]:
Seriously look at what google is doing with Search Wiki right. Twenty startups come up with search engines for voting things up and down. Last year Marissa Mayer at the DLD conference with Jimmy Wales and I on stage says this is not going to work, you can’t have users really doing this. And then yesterday they lanuch exactly what Jimmy Wales and many people at the forum were talking about like people go up there and vote search results up and down and they can add to the results right. Exactly that innovation they just took it wholesale. Not only did they take it wholesale, they called it search wiki which is just a way to say to Jimmy Wales just really F-you. I know your doing search.wikia, but where going to drop off the “a”.
An excellent video with three talented people who continue to move the web forward. Thank you for making it available for those of us who couldn’t be there in person.
When was this recorded?
When was it released?
Why?
Really would love to see it. If only it would work. But it don’t. For whatever reason.
Maybe the streams will be up on another (more reliable source) the other days…
This is a moment a feel really lonely!
LOL — BTW I just checked the GOOG SERP for Marissa Mayer, and apparently their universal BS can’t figure out that there’s a new news item they could give me just in case a wanted to know.
“Sam was a basket case” — google that! ;P
she does the same thing with her voice that john carmack does
I must have watched a different video from the folks talking about it being excellent - seemed very uncomfortable, stumbling, etc. Almost like no one was prepared to say anything
Hey Michael, did she tell you about the new text ads in google searchbox? http://www.azurejournal.com/20.....intrusive/
for those wondering if you could read a real (not coming from one of the members of the arrington-le miur troupe) review of the paris party, sorry, conference, don’t miss the review made by the guardian, one of the good UK newspapers:

This interview with Marissa lacks fizz, she seems robotic.
Mike is Good. But the tension between Loic and Mike is so obvious you can taste it. Mike’s comment to him “Are you staying here?” is uncomfortable to watch.
I guess Mike really wanted him to leave…cuz 1on1 discussions are always better.
Anybody has the transcript?
Once, I interviewed this person and I asked her about my pants. She said they looked nice. I only mention it because that interview had the same impact on society as the one above. And at least mine wasn’t totally staged.
She is hot
Good one.
interesting interview. it must have been awkward for marissa mayer to be up there w/ the tension between loic and michael
so this is a tech site and it can’t get the aspect ratio right?
she is cute !
I wonder whether Google would power any of the quoted ’semantic searches’ by any outright semantic technologies.
I’ve seen this interview cited by a few Semantic Web-interest blogs, as far as I’m aware and as a result of research I’ve performed, I’m yet to see Google show any interest in the Semantic Web (idea).
I think rather more they would use the huge mass of data they have access to, to forge intrinsic links based on preferences of personalisation - perhaps for example, the likes captured by SearchWiki - and base semantic assumptions on those, rather than tackle any natural language processing with regards to understanding language ambiguity.
It would almost be more intelligent processing of personalised trends - but then we know that’s exactly the type of algorithmic calculation Google excel at
- which would no doubt achieve the desired results.
