Yahoo Search BOSS, a search web service which launched just last July, is now serving an average of more than 10 million daily queries, or 100 queries per second, the company says.
A couple of weeks ago we soft-launched a new search engine for TechCrunch, the first implementation of Yahoo’s new BOSS Custom technology (otherwise known as “BOSS Vertical Lens.”

Good to hear. I’m considering using it for my next project.
wonder what the top seach results were?
porn by any chance?
still waiting on them to allow monetization for us common folk.
it’s still “coming soon” and pretty much the only reason I’m not using this yet.
come ON already you yahooligans!
I don’t get it. Is 10m per day a lot or not?
How many queries are Yahoo, Google and Live Search making a day?
very exciting, we have been working with this and it’s very promising. So Yahoo does do a few things right
10m queries a day is a great start. We use BOSS and it’s excellent.
If this is news, why is November missing in the chart?
Don’t forget that you get locked into using Yahoo text ads though for the monetization on those results pages. Yahoo should have an option to block out those ads by paying for the technology. Would that be unsustainable from a cost point of view?
Does anyone here know other comparable webservices for search. What is google equivalent of BOSS?
I’m, happy for yahoo
At least they are growing in one thing
That is a load of Bullshit from Yahoo! They are now resorting to putting out BS PR to promote things where they are 200 years behind their rivals.
Google has already cornered the market on this with their product called Google Custom Search, which not only is a significantly better product, but has been available for 2 years now, and had Ads built into it day one. Most major sites like Macworld, etc. use it and are extremely happy with it. Last time I chatted with them, they had close to 1M websites using the product with, with 40M queries per day. By the way, it is also deeply integrated with their search appliance and they also have an online offering.
From what I know, Yahoo has not exceeded 1M queries per day since launch. I think they conveniently added a ZERO to that number.
@SnowBunny
I don’t know much about Google’s custom search, but it looks like they just iframe google search results.
Yahoo BOSS is actually an API which lets you do a lot more than just display search results. See: http://develope...innrexampleItem
Please before speaking, please read and learn a little bit from the subject.
BOSS is a way to get Yahoo! search results and play with them (Build your own search engine with your own algorithms), not only an other way to display search results !
BOSS is an API, allowing you to access the raw data from Yahoo’s servers, to be reordered displayed as you wish.
Google Custom Search is just a plug-n-play “add your logo to these search results” deal.
They’re not comparable at all.
Google *had* an API once (with a monthly query limit), but they discontinued it. Yahoo’s BOSS API is simply amazing, and while I generally prefer Google as a search engine, they’re not giving us anything like this.
Google still have this service – it’s called Google Site Search (different from Google Custom Search), and it starts from $100 per year. From http://www.goog....py?topic=11503 – “Google Site Search is designed primarily for businesses looking to create a highly customized and Google hosted site search solution – with the option to include other websites and pages outside of their own. For a fee, Google Site Search enables customers to enjoy technical support, customization of search results using XML API, a tailored look and feel, optional Google branding, and no ads next to the search results.”
thank you

Congrats to Yahoo. It’s exciting to watch their numbers grow. We’re really enjoying working with the team and the technology. To see a BOSS implementation in action, come and check out http://www.oneriot.com

It doesn’t say what the purpose is. Good “journalism.”
Seems like they are making headway…. into something… I guess… who knows.
I really like Boss. i was looking for information to help me with a solution to my foreclosure and it send me to a site that explain every government program that is helping with the mortgages… really impresive
I forgot the site http://www.hope...owmortgages.com
I think Yahoo should also hype Yahoo Search as a homepage instead of just Yahoo.com as a homepage. I like having google as a homepage because it loads so quickly with its simple toolbar. If I wanted news, etc I could just go to yahoo.com
Its great, I made a glue type search using their api and python development kit. It took me just 5-6 hrs.

Thats great news. Making search open is the need of the hour and Yahoo has done it the right way. Popularity is no measure to rate content online and users need more option and options is what BOSS provides. Their roadmap is also really cool. Wonder when the next set of features are going to be released.
