@chrsoz
Interesting, I was thinking of purchasing a PS3 but it seems xbox is more popular.
Hmm I might have to re-think my purchase on the PS3 then.
RROD still exists
Btw , Wii touted as the worlds cheapest console is quite expensive in India . Only 40$ less than PS3 ..and hence the gamers had a shock when they were given the price details
Wii uses a lot less electricity, so it’s a bit cheaper to run, and it’s probably more reliable for anyone living in a hot climate without good air conditioning.

In which case, they probably will be unable to afford a Ninetendo Wii
I’m not really into video games at all, but I have to say I wouldn’t be disappointed Santa brought me a wii. I’d totally take an iPhone as a consolation.
so is this data about new units sold, or used units resold? because if it is used units resold, then part of the data means that people are less happy with their xbox for example than with their playstation. or really unhappy with their wii … just wondering.
I want in on the tennis tournaments. I want to kick some butt!!
Can’t wait for Santa to arrive with the new Wii Fit at our house.
Agree Carsten! Ebay’s for re-treads! Wii’s a fad thats fading fast. For REAL results, ask kids in your neighborhood what they’re playing. Most likely ps3 & xbox.
That’s a load of crap. I don’t have to ask kids in my neighborhood, I have three myself. First of all they love the wii and cant’ get enough of it. Second you can’t fake the numbers and when I got our wii earlier this year, I predicted the wii (not really much of a prediction though) would be doing very well if not the best this Holiday season. ha. As for the ps3 vs xbox, this year we’re getting the xbox 360, simply because the ps3 just isn’t there yet. And its just too much more expensive than the others!
s4ndm4n… well talking to people on the street is actually not a load of crap but also called market research. judging market trends by your own preferences is not usually that good of an indicator (at least not alone).
but besides that the initial point raised was if ebay is a good indicator for future demand or past demand.
beyond this, the wii is nice, but i wonder if its target market (younger than teenagers and maybe grown ups) is large enough in the long run. the xbox and ps3 target teenagers and twenty somethings which is a larger market and has more money to spend. so it will be interesting to see if the wii can win over part of that segment, right now based on the type of games and the graphic capabilities of the wii i don’t see that happen.
All I wanted for Christmas was a DJ Hero.
thank you

Is wii really that big??? My 18 year old son hasn’t asked for it for Christmas so I’m thinking it’s not all that great.
What? No Zune? There has to be some mistake!
In my experience wii is a console that is played alot at parties. In college everyone would be drinking and taking turns playing bowling or baseball. I’ve also found that the system is well liked by a much younger and much older crowd. The serious gamer (ages 15-30) are going to look to XBOX and Playstation 3 to develop games that will entertain and challenge them more than the titles released on wii. That may be why there is such a high case of sellers of wii on ebay, the serious gamer jumped in on the hype of the consoles release and is now realizing that the system cannot offer what they are looking for. just my two cents though.
Interestingly it says “related items” so does that mean it’s not necessarily the Wii console at all – but the extra Wiimote and Numchucks, wheels and other accessories??
nice. 40A i get it.
The Wii is selling for $50-$100 over retail on Ebay can the same be said for the RROD Xbox? As for the assertion that the bulk of Ebay sales are used units from disgruntled owners, The Wii shattered the record for the most consoles ever sold in any November ever (2.04mil) it was formerly held by the best selling PS2 in 2002 (1.3mil). If Nintendo manages to sell more than 2.7 mil units in December they will take the record for the most consoles sold in any month ever! (formerly held by the PS2)
Another thing to keep in mind is that the Wii has sold more total software than the Xbox this year. So even with a mega title year under its belt the Xbox still falls short because of its install base. The attach rates have fallen for both consoles due to their increase in install base. This is tracked by vgchartz.com at the link found below, scroll down until you see the pie charts one is hardware sales and the other covers software they are updated weekly.
As of 12/13/08
Wii: 42mil units x 5.32 attach rate = 223.4 million units of software sold.
360: 25.59 units x 7.56 Attach rate = 193.4 million units software sold.

Oh, sorry the pie charts only covers the weekly sales of hardware and software but the chart beside the software pie does give you the current tie/attach ratio. The total console sales chart can be found at the top of the home page the number are still the same.
