I just joined Circle of Moms thru an invite from one of my friends on Facebook. It actually seems really great. Especially after going thru the sign up process, the best part was choosing the tons (and growing) of very specific communities you can join. Mothers can connect and communicate and bond with others from moms who have sadly and unfortunately lost children, to moms that gave birth during specific month/years, to moms of faith and there's also recipe swapping. I ended up on this blog after Googling before I began entering personal info to see if it was legitimate. I don't about any of the tech talk above but I can easily see how this can quickly grow just on fb and then thru the different communities.

I know the founders of COM, and not only are they honest and smart guys, but they are also the bee's knees when it comes to viral marketing. In the past they've created FB apps with 5M+ installs so it's not difficult at all to imagine them convincing 800K new and existing users to join the new COM web site. If you think that is easy to do, you should try it yourself sometime.

Congrats to Ephraim, Mike and team and best of luck. And btw, anyone out there who thinks that moms aren't as close to a perfect fit for a vertical social network as one can find needs to get out from behind their Linux workstation and actually go talk to some moms. If these guys can succeed in delivering value as social apps gain mass market acceptance, the number of potential users is far greater than that of 97% of the top FB apps out there today that pretty much only target techie dorks, who make up about 0.1% of the population. (Disclosure: I am a techie dork.)

Compete is definitely more accurate than Alexa, and seems to be very accurate for my site. It is in the mom/parenting area and gets 200-500k visitors a month. I am very interested to see how Circle of Moms pulled this off (if this is accurate) in such a short time. Seems improbable to me.

Simple.alexa, compete, quantcast are all way of but do give a guide and a very rough one it is.

I have 3 sites which do 1 million uniques between them the most accurate stats are from alexa by a mile......the rest are hundreds of thousands of uniques out.

There is no question that the 850k users are FB installs there is no way in a million years they get even 10k active users on their site a month more like a few hundred if truth be known.......the website is no more than a spin off from their FB app thinking if they set up a site everybody will migrate and eventually it make them rich....it AINT gonna happen there are hundreds of FB apps doing the same, they will not work as a standalone site but nice try :-)

Agreed, also in these tough economic and political times globally, it is nice for people to get together and share ideas and conversation about the things that affect their lives. What a great concept!

I'll join the chorus, it very well could be a great resource but I still don't understand where these numbers are coming from. Facebook app installs does not equate to registered users on the site. My wife reports it's spreading virally on Facebook and she installed it, but has no interest at this time in using it.

@Recipes - we are speaking with a number of brands and working with them to roll out ad products that help them engage our audience of mothers in a way that is natural and appealing to our user base. Keep an eye on us and I think that you will like what you see.

Also, if you have any feedback from brands that you want to share, feel free to post it in the comments her or e-mail me and we can talk.

@chris "brands will love this"... can you enlighten us as to why you believe that to be the case? And try to add some specifics.

My feelings are quite the opposite. In fact, I think this can actually mislead brands who are still trying to figure out social media and how their brands can interact.

I see the site having trouble attracting popular lifestyle brands - Every conversation I've had with a brand has been about creating a genuine connection. I don't see any of the features brands are asking for on the site except groups -

It's pretty apparent that most of the people posting here have no ad servicing experience or else you'd be able to look at the bigger picture. Media planners/buyers handle sites across the board/scope - misleading them affects us all.
