The FBI emailed us today – never a good sign – to let us know about their updated top ten fugitives widget. It’s a big improvement on the eyesore that they released a year ago. Get it here.

Why wasn’t it a good sign? It’s a great way to get the words out.
yeah, nevermind.
Mike,
How about a tool for finding missing kids? I think most would agree that there is much great value in that. My company does this by featuring an RSS feed (Amber Alert) from the Center for Missing and Exploited Children in every email we send. We encourage our clients to do the same.

The guy on the far right looks like Sean Penn
Erm, top right corner I mean.
Ha, that’s exactly what I was thinking! Maybe Sean got in trouble for beating up that uber slut Madonna again.
That has to be a great deal for Clearspring. Gov’t contracts are hard to come buy these days and if they get to create all FBI widgets there has to be a ton of money doing that.
Congrats to whoever sold that deal.
Looks suspiciously like an iPhone… sigh.
with tech criminals are easier to find everyday. tech will eventually rid the world of all wrong doing. ETA 2020

Pretty cool widget … pretty dumb idea for the person who made it look like an iPhone.
Interesting approach to widgets…I wonder what other widgets are being used to track people and take their personal information….things are not always what they seem (start twilight zone music in background)…..lol
If the FBI really wanted to make it go viral and do something clever, they should let you take a photo with your iPhone then give you an estimate of how likely the person you took a photo of is on the 10 Most Wanted List. A little facial recognition magic and you’d have a great app – useful too!
yeah, that would be just great if people were out there taking pictures of everyone else and sending them to the FBI.
why would that be a problem, I take pictures of girls all…
well,um, wait what?
And with geo-location, if a picture looked too much like a terrorists (say, greater than a 60% match), black helicopters could show up right away.
Great idea.
FYI:
Also, the article says … “The widgets are powered by Silicon Valley based Clearspring.” But the description of Clearspring says that they are located in “McLean, Virginia”. I am pretty sure they are based in Virginia.
Yeah Clearspring is definitely based in Virginia, but doesn’t silicon valley based sound so much cooler?
well, their ceo lives in san francisco. don’t you people have jobs or something. quit hanging around here being a pest.
Whoa, easy Mike
Mike … I think they call it responsible reporting or “fact checking”. If you want to be bigger than a blog, act like one. Just odd that you place the one-liner about the company being based in Silicon Valley literally above the line that says it is a “McLean, Virginia” based company — just embarrassing for you, that is all.
We are based in VA. Sorry to disappoint.
James Bulger, #4, is the partial basis for Frank Costello, the Jack Nicholson character in “The Departed”:

I say this without having placed it on a blog/site to see if the photos are static or not, but I think the Most Wanted widget should have a rotation of photos of the most wanted criminals/terrorists with vital info instead of a static photo and links to other pages. If people need more info to make sure they know (of) the person, they can click through to get more. People have decreasing attention spans these days – they may see the photo of the person on whatever site it’s on and recognize them right away and do something, but may not be inclined to go to the site just to see if they possibly recognize anyone. Kind of like a digital version of a “Wanted” poster at the DMV or something. What do you think?
I can’t have criminals taking up my ad space.
Is it Osama or Usama? Widget shows Usama, is this an error?
aside from osama, the widget is really lacking in interesting criminal personalities. maybe they could add some cool videos or games?
Mike,
Their CEO lives in Arlington, VA and I hung out with him the other day. You might want to switch that as their company is definitely based out of McLean, VA.
great. whatever. congratulations.
Lol … just eliminate them off the article? Apparently getting an accurate reference is having your pie and eating it too
Yeah Mike, what happened? Deleting your article content is easier than correcting it?
cool app. i was looking for something like this. but is there a website serving this type of service? criminal repository?

Those looking for a missing children Widget / Gadget can find some here:

The problem with all these widgets is, the people who own that phone are no were near the war or most likely the terrorists… just a thought… but they are probably all in a cave somewhere far away from cell phone towers.
I don’t see anyone but Dog the Bounty Hunter actually using this…
