Sorry for the late reply, I was going to say that

"boy it sucks to get ripped off, however Twitter doesn't need to worry since it has a worth of $20m."

Then was going to point out that a site that I was working for also got ripped off, lo and behold its the site just above my comment, what are the chances, lol.

@ Robin Wauters
I think this website might interest you www.firstentrant.com

It deals with the question of copycats and innovators of a business model. Firstentrant tracks the first-mover and the subsequent followers (copycats) of a given business model.

"Firstentrant.com is the first global Web-Community that scans the entire internet to answer one question: Who entered the market first? Firstentrant.com delivers you global and national rankings for many business models. Help to widen the spectrum of rankings and be part of it now!"

Btw, Facebook was not the first student social networking site, neither was YouTube the first video sharing site, nor was MySpace the first social networking site, nor was the Delicio.us the first bookmarking site, nor was Flickr the first photo sharing service,.....

What I am trying to point out is that - in general, copycats perform much better than innovators in areas where a strong IP protection is impossible because of the nature of a given business model.

To be frank, all the aforementioned start-ups can be viewed as copycats of previous start-ups that were launched if you want it that way.

Does that mean they are bad?
Nope, they were all able to bring their products to the mass market, while the innovators (first-movers) couldn´t.

cheers from Union Square,

Yes, the emotional Slovenians really should think about what a rip-off actually means. OTOH - is the twitter patented or similarly protected for the idea etc? If so, that could turn out to be a problem.

All kudoz to the Slovenian programmer, who produced the service in 16 hours only.

What an interesting post. Twitter should sue koornk (or any other clone) because it looks like it? Hmm ... you probalby sue your kids because they learn by imitating you?

If anything, twitter should be proud that it is copied all over the world.

vkontakte.ru

- very good clone of facebook ... and the biggest site in Russia

I don't understand why people have problems with clones.

The first cars made from different manufacturers were pretty much identical ... the first laptops, the first mobile phones etc ...
Usually, the first to enter a new market successfully establishes a standard ... why try re-inventing something that works, that people accepted and have become familiar with.

Isn't competition supposed to be a good thing?
Let the people decide which website they choose to use!

Koornk users are posting with a lot more class than the TC base in my opinion. Robin clearly didn't reach out before trashing them. Another example of amature hour here at TC.

@Robin Wauters
So if they colored they logo red, used let say a cat on the logo instead of the hen (because we could have cats in henshouses?), reshaped the layout and icons and presented followers in a different manner, you wouldn't say it's a rip off? C'mon, give me a break.

Your disrespect towards Koornk is — as you said it yourself — based on:

What I have much less respect for is services like Koornk (yes, that really is spelled correctly) that clone everything about Twitter without adding anything of value

I think we proved you more then enough in our comments (Who knows best about Koornk's added value? It's users!) that Koornk compared to Twitter adds value to us.

From this point on your whole story is based on the claim that they've internationalized the service when they added english interface to it (is that really all it takes?). So if they've kept their service closed in a small local bubble, everything would be fine and Koornk wouldn't be a blatant rip-off of Twitter?

That’s cool, now go read my last comment.

Other than you repeating yourself in such a boring and annoying fashion, I don't see you actually refuting what any of these Koornk users say. Local users clearly find it useful, Twitter was credited with the idea as soon as the site was active, so why is the metal rod shoved so far up your ass? Are you simply scramming for things to write about in this blog? This post has no value whatsoever. "ohmigod, they copied twitter!!!111 i will write about my diskovary!1"

The developers listed several things that Koornk incorporates, things that Twitter doesn't have. They seem to enjoy building it, they never claimed the idea was their own, and users appear to be happy. What you think, is something hardly anyone gives a shit about. It doesn't change how they use or experience the project. I bet you'd never be able to build something like this in less than a day.

This post: FAIL.
