This would really be a great feature if people could be trusted to rank things honestly. Unfortunately, Google has to spend 99% of their resources to combat spammers.

@Steve Bomber: Google re-invented the browser architecture? Yeah, in their marketing materials they surely did! If you use Chrome daily (like I do), you'll know it's all just marketing as it's neither more stable, nor more secure than IE7; not even than IE8.

This new feature from google called searchwiki is sure causing a stir among techies and regular surfers. Some people hate it some people love it. It is basicly a digg style vote/comment system for google search results. Check out what it looks like (if its not working in your region yet) at http://thesearchwiki.com to see some screen shots and video about how it works.

Agreed, dumbest thing i have seen from Google in a while.

Another reason to avoid Google accounts and logging in to them, the members of my non-tech savvy forum are logging out of their Google accounts and abandoning them in droves and switching to Yahoo/Hotmail addys.

So.. how am I supposed to use this feature?
1) Google something
2) Click on a link
3) Like or hate what I see
4) Click back to the search results
5) Make a comment

Yay, of course google! I'd love to do that for you!

Maybe in the near future we can tell the end of the once mighty Google:
- Started the hated Wiki Search
- Killed themselves by killing Adsense thanks to their Wiki Search
- Microsoft and Amazon controlled the cloud market and Google never could make people pay for their Google Apps.
- Tried to sell mobile phones into retail stores - which killed Google completely as Samsung controlled the pricing of the required processors and chips.

Now we all miss Google Earth

Doesn't surprise me - Google seems to have forgotten about their users. They rolled out the new iGoogle beta to "a percentage of users" with NO option to back out, and pissed off a lot of users there. They "streamlined" their real-estate search, basically by removing all filtering capabilities, and gave no response to users who complained.

This is just more of the same.

My Google account is registered as a US account, and I use US English as my interface language.

But I am not located in the US. So I'm assuming that's why SearchWiki doesn't show up for me.

Okay... mark that second part as wrong. If I choose to view other people's notes, it changes the order of search results as well for me. So, that bit I said is wrong.

Actually, the original blog post on the Google Blog makes it clear that you only see other people's comments if you want to.

Also, the changes in rankings that you make are personal, and don't have any effect on the actual results for anyone else.
