Google is not that convinced of YouTubes business case. They killed the user generated live streaming project long time ago. “First make some money, then we’ll invest extra” is what Google execs said.

You know, YouTubes business today is filling up Google infrastructure and emptying Google pockets. YouTube is very popular but they don’t make money and they will not. YouTube is Googles most expensive hobby.

This live event generated a few PetaByte traffic. Powered by Akamai. Not any of the other ones. Which is not a cheap thing to do. So this live event burned even more money.

YouTube will not offer live streaming. YouTube is not for pro’s. YouTube is cool for consumers. At least as long as Google keeps paying the rent.

I have a theroy that it’s either Digitaria or Amazon WS that will be hosting the live stream but I only base this on a lose hunch.
The thing is that Amazon WS is hosting the swf of the teaser you find on the youtube live page. And on the other hand Digitaria seem to be hosting the iframe to that swf.
I only found this out because I use the firefox addon script blocker that needs to to grant permission for each script hosted by each site and these websites caught my eye.
Anyway, just a hunch

My brother and I created a website (www.lyvegyde.com) that gathers links to interesting, free, live online events (such as concerts, speeches, sporting events, etc…). I am really excited about YouTube Live! and I hope that they will have more high quality live events in the future. There is just something about being able to watch an event live that is a lot of fun.

The one weekend I have free and can drive up to San Fran they go and have a purely virtual event. Almost like a purely virtual function in an abstract class.

AFA your comment, it’s Google so it doesn’t matter if they’re late. They win no matter what. You should pay attention more. They’re f’ing Google. Just like Microsoft was f’ing Microsoft back in 1995.

Android is like Windows 95. They brake for no one like Spaceballs. Youtube live, even with this late launch has more clought in it’s little pinky then all of Arrington’s investment dollars in Seesmic and then some.

All of these services that did live FMS streaming’s best option was a sell out to a cell phone provider or Google and both are now null because of the economy. By doing this Google is saying that there was no strong upstart to purchase and value add to it’s properties. That it was cheaper and better to do it themselves.

If anybody cares, I geo-tagged my way home from work tonight. Having a couple beers(1.75) at work then driving shortly after and snapping pics and uploading them to Picasa in dense and threatening traffic takes mad skillz.
