There is such a mess on the video sharing sites these days, that i think that applying the wiki approach to it can only make it better experience.Check out Metacafe Review, they give users the opp to approve or deny new videos. Simply great!

I like the approach but would challenge whether making metadata editable by the greater audience is really a wiki. Wikis are 90% content creation and 10% content tagging and organization. If they allowed users to collaboratively create and edit videos then THAT would be a wiki IMO.

I can, up until recent months their site consistently took forever to load and also experimented with real player for their video delivery before finally going with flash.

Love this system, but how is this relevant to the masses. They win on technology, but fighting Youtube as a brand, will be to great!

Good things happen when you enlist the support of the community to create and review content. Wikipedia and Open Source have known this for years, glad to see Metacafe has brought this approach to short-form video while providing all of the necessary tools.

I like ideas, that bring some organization to all the tons of data WE produce everyday. But still, the concept of wildscreen.tv, where the user gets 100% of the money from the ad in his channel is the best video platform, I have found so far.

This is how it happens, reminds of MSFT with the media player/browser and Yahoo with search. No way this kind of innovation can come out of secretive/controlling Google, and it will for sure trump youtube if done right. Great idea, kudos.

Just to correct your facts – as a contributor to wikipedia – i can quote you that there were 150,000 unique editors last month int the english wikipedia alone (you can check it on their stats page).
