We’ve had a blast playing SGN’s suite of Wii-like games over the last few months - iGolf, iBowl and iBaseball (basketball, tennis and boxing are coming soon). The apps are being downloaded like crazy on the App store, and no wonder - you get to swing your iPhone all over the place while you play the games.
Now SGN is rolling out something a little different. iFun turns the iPhone into a Wii-like controller, but the actual games are played on normal desktop and laptop computers.
The first title to launch is golf. If you don’t quite get it, see the video below. SGN says they may license other online games to add to the iFun platform, and will release an API for other developers to launch their games on iFun.
Super. Duper. Cool.

See all

Bet that guy can’t hit it over 600 yrds on that game like I can

This looks like so much fun! I can’t wait to download it later today.
Thanks Michael!
wow, its web based… that’s even cooler. Gonna check it out asap.
wow sgn took the iphone to another level
The CEO seemed pretty bored with his iFun toy.
I wonder what the latency is like. Every command needs to go roundtrip between your iPhone, his server, and Flash on your desktop? I could see how that would get annoying.
I wonder why they’re not installing a daemon on your computer and running over Bluetooth or at least LAN WiFi.
i tested it. over wifi at least there was no real latency. game worked awesomely.
good stuff.
i just got an iphone last week. now i have tap tap revenge, google mobile, and remote (along with a bunch of other crap). definitely a good purchase.
this thing wins at life.
I like turtles.
Pathetic… go outside nerds.
Hey!, this is awesome, extreamly funny!!! i want to see more from these guys!!
I have a wii at home and hardly ever touch it. Go outside and have some fun guys.
Yawn, unless it works on Android it’s garbage software. GARBAGE SOFTWARE.
Real men use Android. Girly boys use iPhone
I thought real men developed software instead of taking about it? :-p
If you are using Android you are GIRLY. Android shape is like banana. Chris loves banana shaped phone! LOL
androids are for lamers. iPod dominates the mp3 market, soon it’ll be iPhones.
Don’t miss out on the Snatch app, that turns your computer into a remote.
It has hotkey programming functionality, so it can basically be adapted for using any software whatsoever.
Nintendo is always the pioneer and fell behind at the end of the technology battle ground.
Don’t support SGN. They’re responsible for many of the annoying Facebook apps that I have to manually ignore every day.
On top of that, they discriminate in their hiring practices, only allowing those with Ivy League degrees to apply.
i doubt that is there hiring process, maybe they only want to higher someone with no experience from an ivy league vs a local commuter college.
if you went to a four year school and have yet to develop a social application with any kind of traction or an iphone app that hasn’t been blogged about by at least someone, why should they hire you?
it’s expensive hiring the wrong person. start your own company, pave your own way, even if you fail, believe me helps you get a job that you couldn’t have gotten otherwise.
when did all these trolls, fanboys, highschool kids and game show participants start coming to techcrunch AND commenting. not cool.
MA, do something you crazy man chase these people away.
For the price it has, iPhone should do more.
For the air supply you consume, you should do more.
That was good
Ok, what tech is in the iphone? Even the wii controller can’t yet handle a golf game properly (especially putting).. This will be solved with wii motionplus.
So they are probably doing alot of stuff for you without you knowing.
Cool stuff. Here’s another one: http://www.zoozmobile.com/control/
This is a TERRIBLE idea, which many won’t realize until someone lets go of the phone. Yeah, I’m gonna let a party full of strangers swing my iPhone around like a motion controller. Uh huh.
This is a brilliant idea.. Good to see they thought ahead.
I cant justify the price of this thingamajig
video no longer exists :\
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37mrR8lcaXE
The concept is awesome …but thr could be some damn good appln out thr which could make use of this same concept but less aggressive on moving the phone around :)….But it would be pretty annoying for the user to play games by moving his phone around ….he may try it out for couple of times and get bored and but wii for real :)…or he may end up breaking his iphone..
Whats wrong with the video?
thanks alot
Here is the video… vimeo seems to not support to many guys watching a video!!

Great social game.. hope, we can still make a call after the game
Hi
I attended a workshop the iPhone Boot Camp http://www.meetup.com/The-New-.....-BootCamp/
that teaches you basic and advanced iPhone applications and where you can learn to design apps like iFun
When are you techcrunch guys going to realize that readers are tired of you shilling SGN’s junk? Boooring. Give us news from companies that do real innovation.
