Herbert Elwood Gilliland III claims he invented YouTube and wants compensation (he asks alternatively for $1 million or 1% of the sale price, which is significantly more. All the details are here, including a crazy video.
Video blogger iJustine jumped on the bandwagon and created a spoof video making fun of the whole thing. And Gilliland has responded, minus the crazy but plus a whole lot of boring. And now he says he fixed Paypal, too. Videos are below:

I never really understood iJustine, until I saw her in person. Most people look better on video than they do in person. She is exactly the opposite. She’s quite stunning. I didn’t actually realize it was her. She seems much shorter in real life.

This is a good point. It’s just a trademark. But the innovation was in the psychology of the company. It was important not to name an inventor because that way the inventor is “you” — this was part of the original conversation I had with Chad. I also told him to go on Oprah! Maybe you think I’m just claiming history, but if you could have been a fly on the wall in my 1 room studio that day, you would have heard the whole thing. It isn’t a new form of particle physics, but it is a great way to communicate. I’ve moved on to topics like molecular diagnostics — time better spent saving lives — but I still use YouTube occaisionally. In fact, I even played The Lord Dupre (look for LordDupre’s YewTube Channel).
She’s pretty irrelevant to say the least.

Yes, that is one of the 1000 clones that exist. The first “YT” clone was DailyMotion — though it may have just been happening at the same time. YT will eventually offer great archival movies from MGM — another suggestion of mine — so I think YT is here to stay as a mainstream brand and service.

This is actually not as ridiculous as one might think. Like myself, Herb went to CMU in Pittsburgh. Chad went to IUP, which is about 90 minutes outside of Pittsburgh, so it’s very reasonable to think they met up at some point to discuss it, or that their paths somehow crossed. Needless to say the outwardly entrepreneurial tech sector in Pittsburgh is rather small.
Justine went to some bullshit trade school in Pittsburgh. But whatever, that’s not necessarily relevant. She is, however, living in borrowed time as looks fade and talent wins out. I suspect in a few years all of the associated bullshit and random insults on threads like this will make being a F-list fake celebrity no longer interesting.

This is silly. I invented Google back in 92; later in spare time between sets of benching 400, I hacked together Amazon.com a few years before Bezos figured it out. But you don’t see me asking for $1 million.
Google was actually not the original web search engine: Yahoo was. Yahoo was already successful several years before Google existed.
