It’s OpenSocial day today. It’s been roughly one year since the service launched to fight Facebook’s exploding platform product, and the main companies behind OpenSocial are holding an all day press and developer event at MySpace’s San Francisco headquarters.
The presentation above was shown to attendees of the event. See our other coverage as well:

Social Network Apps To Finally Monetize Within The Next Year

OpenSocial is cool…. but the apps build on …
happy birthday! social networks are emerging like mushrooms. they’re everywhere. and movements such as these, wrapping a multiple passage way without compromising exposure of small to large size web identities or businesses is beneficial not only to the companies behind opensocial that monetize from it but also the public.
Time must have flown by for these guys. I think its a cool idea and more power to them!
the more social networks become open the more they lose control of the user. open social may be the achilles heel of social networking.
SocialLocator.com
I seen this new social network also http://www.mexicanunited.com
Why isn’t open social REST directly in the Zend Framework?
I find myself having to mix and match Shindig with Zend components.
This is a lot of extra work for NOTHING.

no like
Widgets man, who’da thunk?
i think the idea of open social is groundbreaking. however, i don’t think execution is quite there. there is no standardisation in terms of each site using a single version (we’re not on a 1.0 yet), and as a result of that you need to develop differently for each platform, which kind of defeats the purpose of what open social was supposed to be like.
From my point of view OpenSocial is nothing but a big failure. This 1 year birthday shows us only numbers. I would like to see the engagement of the users for this movement.
Have any of you tried to implement opensocial? It is absolutely horrible. All the examples are based on WIn xp or mac installs on local computers, there is very little database support… google group support gets about 1 post a week.
Seriously, It makes me cry
I take back what I said about Opensocial, it is Shindig, the opensocial server that I’m pissed about… shindig sucks
hope someone is making someone money on open social
Iam Surprised by the growth of OpenSocial, Gr8 news..
Hmm looks like the domain opensocial.com is still not Google’s
I was surprised to see the domain’s listing in Sitepoint for Auction but on closer look it was something else. ” opensociali.com” Didnt Notice the “i” when i
