Our friends at Giga Omni Media’s NewTeeVee are putting on a conference tomorrow Thursday for the Web video industry called NewTeeVee Live. The lineup looks great: Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, Hulu CEO Jason Kilar, CSI creator Anthony Zuiker, Sling Media CEO Blake Kirkorian, YouTube platforms director Ben Ling, and many others. The conference is tomorrow at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco.
Update: TechCrunch readers can get a $200 discount and buy tickets for $395 for the one-day event by registering here with the discount code “techcrunch”. Plus, another lucky five readers will get free tickets. All you have to do is tell us why you want to go in comments and we will give tickets to the readers who come up with the five best answers. (Tickets will go to those who seem like they will get the most out of the conference or who produce the most entertaining answers). The topics at this year’s conference will include:
* The truth about online video advertising
* Bridging the gap between television and online
* Online video investment trends
* Managed versus unmanaged content
* Live webcasts of major events: the inside story
Update 2: We have our winners, thanks for the comments.

I want to spread the words about Dealyzer.
You must really hate it when Mike asks you give away free tickets to commenters. All those stupid comments to read, what a bore!
I would like to attend the conference to be among that many online-video-guys at the same time. To be able to talk them, ask for their opinions and share with them mine. To get motivated and inspired from people speaking on the stage and behind.
tickets still available?
no comments on TC yet?
i’d be happy to act as filler to make the audience seem bigger than it is (like the academy awards). seems interesting–did tons of analytics around measuring roi on television advertising in a previous life.
Working on a stealth company for integration of IP and broadcast content. Dying to go and see who’s really getting close to what we all know is going to be significant very soon.
Three quick corrections:
1) The NewTeeVee Live conference is NOT tomorrow. It’s on Thursday, November 13th.
2) Readers can buy tickets at $395 NOT $500 by using discount code “TECHCRUNCH” and registering here – http://events.n...8/?a=techcrunch
3) GigaOM is NOT looking for fillers as @jay suggests. This post is going out very late without even the correct info. We only want attendees who are actively engaged in the online video industry.
We have a winner… oh wait, it’s an employee…..
So who won?
Erick,
I would really appreciate one of those tickets. I’m a recent college graduate who just moved up to the Bay Area, and I’m trying to build a solid network up here. I volunteered at TechCrunch50. When everyone else was in the auditorium watching demos, I was meeting people in the demo pit. I made 85 new contacts (I know because I sent follow-ups to every single one).
I studied entertainment business and entrepreneurship at USC. I’ve been passionate about new media since I was a kid. One of the projects I’m currently working on is a web video player that enables the viewer to change where the camera is pointing after the video has been shot. It’s digital rubbernecking. You and I can be watching the same video from different points of view, even though it was shot with a single camera.
Here’s a demo of that technology I built at Flashcamp:

I hope you’ll make me one of the recipients. I love going to trade shows and meeting new people, but I’m not yet to the point where I can afford them.
Please. =)

I have been in the rut of corporate america working on TPS reports for far to long. There is a burning urge in me to create something more in this world then a well run P.O.S. Oracle implementation. (Thanks Larry, enjoy the boat we bought you)
And thus streaming media is that beacon. I envision working a craft at allows attendees to exchange ideas and participate in conferences that travel budgets would never allow.
How many went to TC50? How many MORE viewed it online? I was one of those online viewers, chained to the cube. And yet my mind was being blown from the live coverage of TC50. I’m on my way to providing this service for other events. My equipment has been ordered, my first *free* gig scheduled.
Send me to NewTeeVee Live so that I can learn from the masters.
Let me know soon, I need to buy airfare and craft an escape route from this padded cubicle box they keep me in. (*cough*, *cough*, feeling sick)
Hi Erick -
Hope all is well… This is Sanjay, from Howcast.com. You covered us in TechCrunch around our launch in February (http://www.tech...illion-a-round/). As you know, we’re both a professional video content producer as well as a destination site for instructional content. We’re both experimenting with new modes of content production as well as in-video advertising.
We’d love to be able to attend the NewTeeVee conference and I think we could really benefit by attending.
Thanks!
-Sanjay
you win a ticket
I am the forward reaching consumer, looking for the reality of free streaming content to your living room and the end of cable companies. I currently utilize several services to stream free content to my TV (through my XBOX) from sources like Hulu, YouTube etc. I spread the good word to my fellow consumers and I am ready to embrace the full potential of technology.
Can I go?
Having worked on the publisher and advertiser side (Y! video and yahoo marketing and now marketing for video games) i have a good understanding of the online video industry. would like to go to stay up to date on trends and decide on whether and how to include video in marketing mix for our games. thanks for the free ticket offer!
I’m a founder of Collient, an early stage startup in the hugely underserved online video space. Sarcasm aside, we’re pushing to launch our customised/personalised video solution, which provides non-linear access to (premium) long-form content, with our first customer in Q1 2009.
We haven’t taken any funding as yet, and the $395 for a ticket to NewTeeVee Live represents a month of costs including server space (thank you AWS/EC2) as we hunker down towards our upcoming release.
It would be phenomenal to be able to attend, both to network and to get a broader sense of what others and experts in the space are thinking about for themselves and envisioning for the industry at large.
Unfortunately I can’t justify the expense at this point, since we’re very tightly focused (yes, I realise there’s a long term benefit to be had, but we have to make choices sometimes)
cheers,
Rohan.
No one has heard that the bird is the word. I need to share such news with them.
worst family guy ever.
sorry, just had to mention it. that same joke went on for about 20 minutes.
My CEO has cut all conferences yet we ARE in the space. These ARE my clients and colleagues. If you can spare a ticket my CEO will be impressed and may even change his mind about how important TechCrunch is to sucess.
Hi Erick,
I’m working on becoming the subject matter expert on digital media in my company.
I’ve been researching how consumers are shifting their media spending from traditional to new media, the shifts in advertising revenues between different platforms, and the changing economics of the movie and TV industries as consumers and advertisers make these shifts.
Business is a little slower these days, and like a lot of people I’m feeling a little anxious about keeping my job. The knowledge I would gain and the connections I would make at the conference would make me a valuable asset to my company, but there’s no budget for me to attend the conference.
In short, I want to go for job security – I’m trying to make myself so valuable to my company that there’s no way they would let me go.
And personally, I watch all of my TV content online and as a consumer, I’m interested in how everything works behind the scenes, both the technology and the business models.
Hope to see you at the conference on Thursday!
Lauren
Hi, big fan of TechCrunch and first-time poster. I’m 27 and from Los Angeles. I am part of a new interactive agency shop which we started a few months ago and we are working on a few ambitious online video projects (happy to share with you). Our agency also happens to be located inside the studios of a stealth HD video companyso we get to hear about what they are up to all the time – AND we get to do all their market research without ever actually getting to mingle much with the industry itself. It’s like being a fan of bands that never visit your town all over again…
I’ve gone to OMMA for free once before before but besides that, I’ve yet to have the budget to go to a big conference. I’d love to check this out, and I’m willing to drive and blog for it…
Cheers!
Hey Erick,
Here are my reasons I’d like to go:
- Opportunity to meet, talk and schmooze with potential partners and customer whose business and technical requirements I’d like to better understand
- Get better perspective on where market is heading and what people are seeing in terms of content delivery business models’ evolution
- In-depth, first-hand understand of challenges facing on-line businesses
- [just to repeat] Opportunity to meet, talk and schmooze with potential partners and customer whose business and technical requirements I’d like to better understand in order to see if there is an opportunity to do business together
- … and, I think it will be fun
No problemo! {seesmic_video:{”url_thumbnail”:{”value”:”http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/ai7ZvMHpNA_th1.jpg”}”title”:{”value”:”No problemo! ”}”videoUri”:{”value”:”http://www.seesmic.com/video/NvAsQI2NJn”}}}
you win a ticket. Not because this is funny, but because you were the only one to comment via video.
Thanks Erick, that’s super cool. I’ll work on the funny part the next time!
i would like a ticket so i can try to resell it in front of the event for a small profit.
also, i think you should give it to me b/c joanne is out of line with her correcting tone after you are just doing her a favor
Ah, the wonderful world of TC commenters.
I would love to attend this event!!!
I am currently going to grad school studying for my MBA focusing on entrepreneurship. In one of my classes right now I am doing a project where we we could choose a topic of our choice. I am currently researching Online Video and how that is effecting the traditional media business model. This event would be a great learning experience to learn first hand what businesses are doing rather than having to rely on secondary research from TechCrunch!
Oh and I can also do a mean internet video star melody of the star wars kid dance while singing chocolate rain! You should see it…its awesome!
I can’t think of an entertaining answer, but I am pretty sure I’d get most out of the conference by hogging on the *free* food while watching a movie on hulu!
You don’t need a ticket. Just watch on your HDTV.
PCTVCables.com
to watch newteevee jump the shark
I would like tickets so I can tell the organizers in person that it’s TV – not TeeVee.
Of course they’ll probably tell me they chose the name because that was the only available domain. Pretty much the reason behind every wacky name these days…
A bonus is helping our clients understand how they can expand and capitalize on their online video offerings.
OK, I’ve been reading everyone’s mundane reasons for why they need to go to NewTeeVee Live. I want to network, don’t have money, blah blah blah BORING.
LISTEN UP PEOPLE, THIS IS THE REAL McDEAL: I INVENTED YOUTUBE AND I NEED TO GO SO THAT I CAN SHAKE DOWN CHAD AND STEVE FOR MY MONEY!
But it’s not just about me. Once I’m finally paid what I deserve, then I can finally get to work on building the Mega-GammaRayâ„¢ to destroy the series of impending comets that are currently heading directly towards the Bay Area for THIS FRIDAY! Despite my frequent and extensive blogs about the comet issue, the Mainstream Media refuse to cover it.
For instance, DID YOU KNOW Rupert Murdoch and Michael Arrington both stand to reap huge financial rewards in a post-comet inferno world? THINK ABOUT IT Read more here: http://tinyurl.com/2w4apm
So, once again, to review:
Give me free ticket > shake down YouTube thieves > build giant laser > blow up comets > save humanity.
Ignore me at your own peril!
I’d just like to point out that my post-collegiate need for networking created the market conditions necessary for this post. This is the entertainment biz – if you win a ticket, I get 10%.
We can pretend I’m an agency – in exchange for my fee, I will also provide access to free glass bottles of apple juice and an attractive receptionist.
Good Lord, another conference? I thought startups were supposed to clamp down on frivolous spending?
Going to these conferences is not only a waste of time and money, but I doubt you’re going to learn crap about building a viable revenue-earning business.
Come to think of it, being a conference organizer is a pretty good racket. It’s a pretty good way of shaking down wannabe entrepreneurs.
No way! A new conference? NewTeeVee Live?
I really need to go..I have an awesome schwag bag that needs filling!
X-mas presents for the family!
Free Pens?! t-shirts? I really want to wrestle a middle-aged IT consultant for a free stress ball!!
Please, I’ll even grab extra schwag for you Erick!
I am the Marketing Manager at http://www.CastTV.com/ – I eat sleep and breathe online video. I can never get enough!

I even wrote about how to watch online video at work without getting caught: http://blog.cas...getting-caught/
TechCrunch / NewTeeVee please make all my online video dreams come true! I am also happy to volunteer if you need extra hands. It will be the best day of my life!
you win a ticket.
My head looks like a great big TV and I want people faces to light up when they watch me.
Funny. If Ben below doesn’t get back to me, you can have his ticket.
I must go to New TeeVee to discover insider secrets, a.k.a:
* The truth about unmanaged content
* Bridging the gap between investment trends
* Online video: the inside story
* Managed versus major television and online events
* Live webcasts of online video advertising
* Undercover valleywag detection and expulsion
Erick and Joanne,
1- I am a partner in a website actively engaged in a specific niche of the online video industry.
2- I am not the programmer.
3- I am fun.
4- I promise to spend equal time hitting on Joanne as I spend hitting up the VC’s.
5- I live in Sacramento far enough away so that the conference is a big deal, yet close enough to come on short notice.
6- Fan of Fred since his JKL days, fan of What the Buck since his Peron75 days.
7- I have always wanted to take a picture with a guy named Om.
9- Erick I love your posts.
10- Joanne I love long walks on the beach…
you win one
I’m a self-employed, independent, online media creator (ie, struggling to pay the ridiculous Silicon Valley mortgage). Nevertheless, we’ve created a new online series, Volunteer Nation, profiling extraordinary Americans who get off the couch, get involved, and inspire others to give time and energy to something their passionate about. The self-funded 7 minute pilot, featuring political volunteers, is live and on our site. Months ago I’d sadly put aside attending NewTeeVee Live, making the sensible cash flow decision. But then your offer, a glimmering beacon through the wild west of online media creation and distribution appears and gives hope. Watch the first minute of our pilot, and you’ll be hooked!
