[...] Our next visit was to Techcrunch then Yahoo! The TC Ranch was not what I expecting… no horses or cowboys (generalization? probably!) but inside (even though it was very early) there was a lingering buzz of the start of another day of hot-off-the-press journalism. We met the team who ran Crunchbase and the Techcrunch core products. As Heather Harde was speaking, I sensed a presence behind us. Peering over my left shoulder, there stood the Man Giant himself, Mike Arrington! He gave us advice on how to deal with blogs and getting PR coverage, but kept it brief because he knew that we were there to pitch to him. Great guy! Great advice! Some of the Seedcamp teams got some great coverage. [...]

True. TechCrunch is presenting a closed-beta company as the innovator and leader in this space, when others have been openly offering this for quite some time already.

coComment does not only aggregate user comments: you can also track a conversation based on it's URL, and soon also track related conversations from FriendFeed, Digg, ......

For sure, being able to aggregate the conversations from FaceBook would be great. But this is definitely not an open platform and user content is kept in hostage there ;-)

You nailed it completely. This will be a huge player in the business world so that marketers can keep track of conversations taking place across the web. When a business sees they have no comments on their blog but then finds out there are 15 on Twitter and 35 on FriendFeed, that is precious information.

I'll be interested to see how this shakes out and works into the various blogging platforms. I don't necessarily care about everything aggregating on their (uberVu) website, but I do think that content needs to make it back to the original source.

[...] Michael Arrington at TechCrunch can’t wait, weighing in with a potted history of those who have gone before in their attempts to make sense of the chaos: “This is an area that startups have experimented with for years, either aggregating by user or by URL. CoComment was an early attempt at aggregating unique user comments across sites (Disqus, SezWho, JS-Kit, Intense Debate and BackType are more recent examples). Less has been done on aggregating discussions around a specific story or URL, but FriendFeed’s API allows publishers to pull in specific FriendFeed comments on a story, and Quotably has tried to aggregate Twitter discussions (it is now deadpooled).” [...]

Great to see UberVU getting some well deserved attention. Met them at Seedcamp. Cool guys from Romania living in London, very determined to do whatever needs doing to make it a success.

Been testing the product for some time now. It really does solve a problem for PR & marketing guys & geeks obsessed with the question of where their writings pop-up or echo on the web.

Still some rough edges, but nothing that couldn't be sorted out.

bye

Another new service of comment aggregation we have launched last week is commentino.com. We are using a unique client we have developed that adds the following features:

-publish happens immediately, within one second.
-comments are "signed". no one can claim they are you.
-works on any web site, even it does not have a commenting system
-you can add tags to your comments
-you can be selective - share some of your comments and don't share other, or use more than one profile.

I think that the variety of services in this space gives the user more choice on his comment aggregation solution.
