Good (domain) name, cute little concept: Newsified is a minimal aggregation project that offers a centralized birds-eye overview of the most popular social news / bookmarking websites, as well as the top YouTube videos.
Creator Luke Stevens says he got tired of the fact that only about 10% of the latest content makes the front page of the popular social news sites, and figured he could cook up something that takes the remaining 90% out of their “silos” so one doesn’t have to click so many times to get an overview of what’s hot on the web.
Unlike similar services like popurls, Alltop and Loud3r, Newsified presents the top content of various social news sites like news articles instead of a simple list of links, with a headline on top, short summaries if available and an indication of the original source with icon and direct clickthrough. This enables you to get an overview of what’s popular on the internet across different categories, all on a single page (which also means you’ll be scrolling down quite a bit).
Granted, Newsified isn’t going to win freelance designer Luke Stevens any prizes for innovation, but it’s bound to be of interest to those who like to stay on top of what’s hot on the web, regardless of what category it falls under. You can check out how Stevens built Newsified at the bottom of the about page.

I like http://www.originalsignal.com/ and http://web.feedables.com/
I think you get a better idea of interesting web news via an aggregated view across all sites. I pass on the Digg only view.
Popurls has a lot more to offer than the rest, esp. with the new Twitter sharing feature they launched.
Is it REALLY necessary to make the top stories bold and all caps?
It feels like I’ve got someone standing next to me yelling headlines into my ear.
When will people realize that using all caps is bad usability practice and irritating to the reader.
I think it’s cool, at least I can check the most popular content in some categories.
any way to customize the category? that would be even better.
This is very interesting….I do like the concept, but I think that Laconi.ca and Twitter have changed everything. We no longer and never will consume content in the old media way. We want and expect our media/content to be real time, and we are just begging to come to the mind set that each and everyone of us is a content producer as well as a content consumer…..”Follow” me
newsified means “having sex” in german.
Has a feeling of Alltop’ish and Popurls mashed together. Clean and easy to understand. His about page provides background on the backend.
Social news and activities are becoming more influential than ever before so does http://www.nichea.info
I think Alltops.com is more broad in news.

Hi Robin.
You note that “Unlike…Loud3r, Newsified presents the top content of various social news sites like news articles instead of a simple list of links, with a headline on top, short summaries if available and an indication of the original source with icon and direct clickthrough.”
This is, in fact, precisely what Loud3r is doing. After a recent update our headlines now link directly to stories with a sidebar on the destination site linking to related articles and photos.
So you present ‘top content of various social news sites’. You’re sure about this?
Ah, I’m re-reading that line with an emphasis on *social news* sites (rather than regular/all news sites) and the contrast makes more sense. My main point was that we’re presenting stories in a newspaper format (headline, source, icon, photo, summary) rather than an Alltop-style list of linked headlines.
Can I take this opportunity to point out http://www.Aggreget.com, which is even more minimalistic: it only shows news links that overlap popular news aggregation sites (like Digg, Stumble, etc)?
I’m already hooked on this site. Very cool place to get lots of news.
It’s really cool to see a lone guy create a great service. Very inspiring. I look forward to seeing his numbers go way up.
Great site! I think this is a new and exciting market to head into with the newsfeeds sites growing like weeds.
